Anyway OP, get the M550 to avoid any issues with TLC (as per the 840 EVO fiasco). Or you have the spare cash, get the 850 pro tongue.gif

As stated, I already have both the EVO and the M550 but wasn't sure which would work best as boot drive on X99 build. The other one I'll find another use for.

The M550 I may leave in it 's current X68 build where it's been 100% trouble-free for almost a year of hard daily use and then just use the EVO in the new build... worse case I end up reloading an OS if it goes south.

Thanks again for all the replies. thumb.gif

Ahh my bad didn't properly read your original post.

Good luck! Pray to the gods of memory that there will be no issues with the 850 EVO's TLC rolleyes.gif

lol I didn't read it properly either rolleyes.gif

If the M550 is already installed with an OS on it the logical thing is to use the evo for the new build.

Both good drives, highly unlikely samsung would shoot themselves in the foot with the 850 evo after the 840 fiasco.

But then theres Anandtech saying its TLC in its table: http://www.anandtech.com/show/8747/samsung-ssd-850-evo-review

So...I dunno who to believe lol

Technically TLC is MLC, however, we usually refer to two bit NAND as MLC and three bit NAND as TLC. So calling TLC MLC isn't really wrong, it's just not the best choice. The 850 EVO utilizes 3D TLC NAND based on the 40nm node (I think it is 40nm) so it should be better than the 19nm planar TLC in the 840 EVOs.
