[pcgameshardware] Witcher 3 with the day one patch. Several visible improvements. - Page 12

If the wolves look different then this, something went wrong.

Personally while i wish i could put it on, hairworks is not worth the 20fps drop.

This is one of the rare occasions where it looks worse in motion. trust me. actually why take my word for it, turn it on and go out to the forest and see for yourself. Maybe it doesn't help with how choppy the frames are but try turning everything low except hair stuff and see if smoothness makes it look better

It looks amazing to me but it requires just way too much power.
If i put everything on low/medium i can keep 50-60fps with hairworks on and it looks really good, bunch of fuzzballs flying to me, not to mention the griffin in all it's glory.

What's worse is that those who spend a ridiculously amount of money towards their rig are going to be sorely disappointed and felt betrayed and if I were them I would ask for my money back. This looks like nothing more than to drive up graphics card sales. Nothing more. Even though it runs like horse crap on high end rigs. Welcome to PC gaming, you are all alpha testers for console gaming

Agreed. The game looks good but it's not the best looking game to date. There are some serious CDPR diehards that would argue otherwise. I just got done playing another hour and several times i felt like i was looking at TW2 again. No joke. It's becoming more and more apparent it's a port as well. Random turn in a room boom 20fps drop. I almost pre-ordered for full price, based on CDPR's rep alone. Then got back on the forum started seeing these threads and abandoned ship. I just want to honestly hear a response from them. Maybe PC gamer slams them for the shoddy marketing, and they way they handled the accusations against them from the community. I want to see someone call them out besides us.

If E3 wasn't a lie year after year i wouldn't care at all. If they showed us a screenshot and said "this is what we were able to come up with." i'd say okay, got it.

It looks exactly like the painted on grass except its painted hair on creatures and people

I'm almost thoroughly disappointed in Hairworks. I just don't get it. In some scenes it looks okay and in others it looks God awful. I know as many complained about the unnaturalness of Laura's hair in Tomb Raider those were rare occasions. Hair wise TW3 hasn't looked this good to me. This isn't even the best representation of TressFX, just realized i only had four or five screens on my profile. To me it looks much better anyhow, or consistently better should i say. Also the performance hit wasn't near what Gameworks is IIRC. Granted i haven't tried with just Geralt.

well i'm playing with hairworks on everything (not just geralt), and i can't say i'm impressed. probably end up turning it off. Geralt's hair (and everyone else's) looks like he's underwater, unnaturally floating around, oblivious to the character model's movements...

AMD's tressfx looks better then this (and that didn't look all that good either)

So Hairworks makes animals bigger? Geralt's job is tough enough without these buffed out steroidal Hairworks beasts running around.

So is that how your keeping it. Low settings but with furball tech on? I'm guessing with how bad everything else looks ultra to low on everything else doesn't make much of a difference?

Got the game for free from Nvidia so I can't complain much about it because I was never into the Witcher series or following any of it. Initial findings are pretty lackluster to me for a game that's so hyped for PC gaming and being DRM-free. Grass and hair look terrible and so do the distant trees but the ground textures don't seem so bad.

Now most of you know how I felt with Rome 2 and it's state of release and lack of visuals compared to footage prior to the release. Use this as a lesson to not fall for "alpha-footage" because Creative Assembly did the same thing and lost me as a fan/consumer of their products for good (unless they update the Warscape engine and go DX12). Which is sad because the first Rome made me consider buying/learning about computers and I'm sure the Witcher series was close to some individuals hearts. All good things come to an end at some point and luckily I don't care enough about gaming anymore tongue.gif

I would imagine based on the continued censorship of their official forums that they know they messed up. Even though the game will be great story wise and even discounting the downgrade the roots of this game is firmly console oriented now.

Id wonder how this will impact their next project cyberpunk.
