Export Witcher 3 profile from 352.86 drivers and use it on 350.12 drivers. Its not going to be as perfectly smooth as with 352.86, but much better than default 350.12!

I fixed Witcher 3... GTX TITAN 30FPS to 60FPS.

Turn off the Nvidia Hairworks.... that Gameworks feature tanks Kepler GPU. I believe Kepler GPU is crippled on PhysX...

I'm on Driver 350.12

It's a HUGE tessellation load. They tessellate to ~100k hairs if the camera is close to the main characters head (and it always is, because the camera control and positioning sucks)

Maxwell is actually significantly better at Tessellation than Kepler, so it absolutely makes sense for it to be a bigger hit on Kepler GPU's. That's not a driver problem or a lack of optimization, it's a reality of hardware. Even so, turning it on with my reduced settings on single 980 took me from ~120 to ~90fps from the player character hair alone.

It sucks even more for Radeon users, because the 290 is actually awful at tessellation. The 285 is faster even though it's a much smaller and lower power GPU because the gcn1.2 improvements have not reached the high end cards yet, AMD seems pretty reluctant to refresh hawaii

I feel the AMD is able to keep up because it doesn't support at some level of tesselations. I believe the card or driver just ignored it and continue to render everything else.

I must say either Nvidia or CDPKT did a poor job on the hairworks, too much. The hairworks needs some occlusion culling or something when it is not in the view. Maybe that might helps.

Real world performance isn't that bad for AMD. I got curious about all of this talk about performance last night and checked it out. OC'd 290x only loses 15-20fps at ultra when hairworks is toggled. There are many other problems with the game's optimization than hairworks.

Culling seems to just not exist, for one. I can find a heavy load area outside of a building that tanks my framerate when I look at it, go inside a building, look in the same direction and it still tanks my framerate even though not a single bit of it is visible through window, crack or door.

So the game runs poorly even on a GPU with 3x as much tessellations performance, I am sorry but the performance of the GTX 980 or even the Titan X don't exactly "wow" me into wanting to upgrade. Those claiming they did it to show off the "Maxwell" architecture, it isn't that impressive to me at all.

It sounds like CDPR need some due diligence in cleaning up the experience and toning down the effects or providing more options to users to manually adjust the level. It's either a lack of optimization or a bug in my opinion that affects all users, just affects Maxwell the least. The hair / fur effects are not that extravagant to cost that much of a performance hit. It also seems to run just as well on the R9 290x as the 780 Ti, yet the 780 Ti is vastly superior in terms of "tessellation" so obviously there is more at play here.

gm204 is the replacement for gk114 users, and it's almost twice as fast, pretty drastic difference. Gm200 is for gk110 users but only available @ titan because of market positions atm

If you want a huge upgrade just wait until AMD has something competitive with pascal flagship (~14-16nm with HBM2) so it's affordable because those tier GPU's will probably be a mile beyond gk110/gm204

There is absolutely no reason for me to upgrade.

We need developers to start optimizing games. We need smarter programmers. We really need someone to stand up to everyone. There is a huge difference between upgrading for a higher visual fidelity than some artificial limits that can barely be detected.

Optimization is the difference between this:

And this:

That was a benchmark I was working on.
