Gta 5 and the Titan X

Thread Starter
I am getting pretty low frame rates in GTA 5. I have everything maxed except for no aa and grass quality is at very high instead of ultra. I run a steady 60fps in city but once i get out into the mountains and desert i dip into the 40s and even 30s sometimes. That doesn't seem right to me. I mean i have my cpu @ 4.7ghz atm so i should be good there. I could understand this if i was using copious amounts of aa but i am not using any what so ever. I even lowered grass quality to very high. Anyone else running this game with a titan give me an idea what kind of frames they are getting. I guess i forgot to add i am playing @1440p. I sure hope my titan can do a little better than this. It is only in certain area's of the game. Like i said mountainous and desert areas.

I wish I had the game to compare, although I only have 1080p.

It does seem weird that with a more open area with less objects it's lower. I guess it might be increasing the view distance.

Did you enable high-res shadows in Advanced settings? I was playing at 1080p with my 970 and until I disabled that, I was routinely in the 40's and even mid 30's sometimes. I have everything maxed except grass at Very High and I'm constantly between 65-70fps with spikes in the 80's and dip into the 50's but that happens infrequently and only in areas with very dense foliage. I haven't seen a single dip in the 40's since then.

A Titan X at 1440p should run about the same as a 970 at 1080p.

I'm also playing it at 1440p wity everything at ultra except grass at very high. Ilose about 5fps going to 2XAA & 10fps using 4xAA. CPU @ 4.2Ghz & using 2 AMD R290x. Average FPS in city with 4XAA is 50fps, dropping to 40fps in the country. Defo sounds like there is an issue as you should be getting better fps with a Titan X.

Disable high-resolution shadows. You'll get a 10-15fps boost. Regardless, a Titan X which is multiple times the GPU of the PS4 should have no trouble at those settings but it is what it is.

yea i know the grass is harsh on the system that is why i dialed it down a hair. It kind of sucks when i first got the game i maxed out everything with 4x msaa and 2x txaa and i never drop much below the upper 50s. I was like hell yea this card is maxing the crap out of this game. Then i took a drive out to the desert and bam fps plummeted on me. I hear sli support isn't grand at the moment but hopefully by the time i get my second titan x it should be much much better. I can say this much if 2x titan x won't do it there isn't much more out there that will. I just feel like something is amiss here tho.

I had SLI'd my 970's and my performance was actually worse so I returned one. I think SLI support is virtually non-existent. At least last time I tried it which was about 3 weeks ago.

I get a rather large boost from lowering reflection aa from 8x to 2x and i don't see one lick of difference. I would like to be able to have at least 2x standard msaa. I do notice a tiny little bit of jaggies with no aa and with 2x its gone. I was actually hoping i would be able to pretty much set everything at max @ 1440p with this card. Well here is to hoping for future optimization and sli support.

yea it netted me a good 3-5fps but i wasn't really in an area where there was a ton of shadows and it was night time. I do notice my fps are a good margin better in sp. I know my internet connection speed isn't to blame. For one that doesn't effect fps i believe and second i have a 120mb connection.

i would like to add i just realized i didn't have my overclock enabled. I enabled that 227mhz to the core. Disabled hi res shadows threw 2xmsaa and 2xmsaa reflection with grass at very high everything else maxed and my fps went up a good 10-15%. I really didn't want to sacrifice hi res shadows tho. Kind seems like that might actually impact my visuals a bit more than aa.
