OMG I had no idea this was pending.

OT:

Best DOOM game moment ever in one of the early games (I or II).

My younger brother and I were playing CO-OP on our home LAN during a superbowl and about 15 friends were watching us at halftime in our upstairs Loft (huge Pool table room)....we walked down some corridor in bright light which was odd for DOOM. We hit a trap door and freaked out as both of us fell through the floor. Lights were out and we were surrounded by about 15 of those scratchy noise brown melee mobs. We both had rocket launchers selected and started blasting in all directions. We killed everything and in the end turned around and blasted each other from 5 feet away killing us both. The entire room erupted in insane laughter.

The other was CO-OP again for the first time together down that damn long sewer like hallway in the dark...quiet forever for what seemed a hundred yards, then you open the door at the end...the Scream, then balls of green or blue fire headed generally in your direction. Panic...Dead.

Looks exciting, I've always liked ID's games especially their Doom and Quake series, hope this one will not disappoint and I hope their new engine is nothing like IDTech5.

Do all games using id Tech engine suffer from textures fading in? Wolfenstein The New Order had this and it was a small annoyance. Still very excited for DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM

The hype is strong in this one. Doom and Doom2 were my first games on PC (before that, C64 all the way tongue.gif ), playing thousands of levels for years and still running the original from time to time thanks to its immortal gameplay; I was fond of Doom2 in particular, in my opinion its gameplay always represented perfection. For the gentlemen including Doom3 in the batch, they may have forgotten the uproar when fans of the original series felt betrayed by such hybrid: that's a good survival-horror where you can shoot stuff, but the only thing they have in common is that they are both games.
About Quake: when I first bought it, with the awesome bonus tracks of NIN, one of the very first games to be distributed on CD-ROM me and my friends had mixed feelings; sure, it was true 3D (although we all played Descent, and THAT was full 3D) but our computers were unable to handle it with decent framerate (on average we got 8fps on a 486 33Mhz with 8 megabyte RAM, things improved on a Pentium 75Mhz due to the math coprocessor, but you still couldn't go fullscreen -and I want to remember that a big monitor was 14" at that time....using a fraction was like playing on a smartphone today). So yes, it had a good atmosphere, few -but creative- weapons, an eerie OST (first time without MIDI synthesis: today is something we don't even notice as our standards are multichannel THX grade hifi soundtracks, but back in the days it was....unique), an interesting graphic (it wasn't much detailed, we still preferred bitmap artworks), but it lacked the punch of the Doom franchise, even the final boss battle was dull and empty; so no, for those who lived that era there are no doubts about Doom/2 being the incarnation itself of the concept of "FPS".
Well, I have an impressive batch of titles to play yet, so in any case I will be probably getting it years later (hopefully, with a GOTY edition and all bugs fixed biggrin.gif )
