At the 980 launch there was, what, 5-10% difference between the 780Ti and the 980 (and that's being generous when OCing is taken into account) yet somehow now Kepler can't even keep up with a 960? Its quite obvious what is going on here...

There are things that are possible of Kepler poor performance or all of them.

1) Nvidia might have spend a lot of time optimizing Kepler to keep up with GCN and now they are not.
2) Nvidia are not optimizing Kepler at all.
3) Nvidia are purposely slowing down Kepler and optimizing Maxwell to widen the gap.

I am curios to see GTX580 3GB performance since it's the most powerful Fermi GPU.

Also so much for Titan OG 6GB future.

This should change the slogan to : The Way It's Meant to be Played Now.

No. I was just telling the person above me that there is a difference.

They are allowing history to be rewritten and if you think about it it makes a hole in people's conclusions of long term value and has implications for the future. Bad strategy, Nvidia.

I don't know if the average Joe. 90% of people use benchmarks to purchase new GPUs and not look up their current GPU. Even if they look things up making Kepler weak and Maxwell strong will just make them want to upgrade even more. Informed people have to me more vocal about this stuff of the effect is actually positive for Nvidia.

This is exactly what's going to happen and why they're doing it. They simply want people to move on to the 9xx's and then the one after that when they drop the 9xx's for whatever comes next.

It's terrible and it's why I won't buy nVidia.

Are they choosing to not optimize it any longer, or have they just run out of ways to optimize it? Perhaps they have just wrung all the performance out of those cards they can, and Maxwell just has more optimization-room. Or perhaps Maxwell as an architecture is just better suited to newer games. I get the angst over the lack of gains from Kepler cards, but at some point architectures/optimizations just run out of steam.

i never said there wasn't, all i said was Nvidia was no more evil than AMD.

There is no way a 780Ti can go from being equal to a 290(X) to being less like this.

That strategy has an enormous potential to backfire. At some point people will notice that their cards are not lasting as long as they used to and that there is suddenly a remarkable drop off in performance compared to competing cards.

When you have an R9 280X competing with a GTX 780 something is wrong. Or is AMD's architecture suddenly so much better?
