Overall think TW3 looks easily better than GTA V just due to its consistency... GTA has higher peaks but also lower valleys if I can put it that way, whereas TW3 looks consistently excellent.

It's curious to me the performance problems people are reporting about inability to hit 60fps @ 1080p... I'm sitting around 50fps average at 4k.

Yeah. I dont know why some people think GTA V as a good looking game. Some textures are just plain low quality. Also character model is no where near the quality of Witcher 3.

GTA V is not good looking, its decent. Witcher 3 however is not very attractive either graphically speaking. The vegetation is ugly, the textures are also lacking in some places, lighting and shaders are nothing special. Models might be impressive to some extent but I wouldn't call Witcher 3 a very good looking game. Also, considering how the game looks I would have expected it to run a lot better. With such graphics it should provide significantly higher frame rates but no, that is not the case. Only GPU which can run it maxed out at a steady 60 fps is a 1K GPU (Titan X) and all that at 1920x1080. This is just embarrassing.

So I just started it up, on ULTRA with hairworks off, at the very beginning on the balcony overlooking the forest...it seemed to look "jerky" when standing still and my two 7970's were only being utilized 53%+-

is this a sign of needing an updated xfire profile or is there a memory issue I am running into? my cards are 3GB

attached AB screenshot for the few mins I walked around

day1 patch installed

edit: playing on my 1920x1200 monitor..I have a 1080 if that would make a difference

edit2: yea theres no profile yet, I forgot I had my CCC set to allow xfire for all games...I get like 23 fps on ultra with no hairworks now but the shakyness is gone and things look normal

I am running the game right now 290 @ 1175/1500 with AA off, HW off rest is on Ultra. I am getting 40-55 fps @ 1440p. For a ~ $250 GPU i can not expect more plus once CF is up and get driver improvements it will be easy to run. A HD 7970 @ 1125/1575 is getting similar performance @ 1080p. You dont need 120 fps for this game. As long as you dont dip below 30 fps it will feel fine.

yep

also, when the griphon is on the ground if you hit it with the force blast magic when it's trying to take off it colapses to the ground stunned allowing you to wail on it consistently

frankly all i did to prep for the fight was make some swallow, put one level into the force blast magic, and then slaughtered it. didn't have to redo the fight at all.

I suggest you run around to all the ??? on the map, lots of unannounced mini-adventures all over the map with plenty of eq rewards, and more importantly, it will give you a ton of combat experience. once you master combat (on a gamepad ideally) this game is a cinch.

Watching lirik atm, hes running 3 titans and gets around 80-100'fps at 2k, all on ultra but HW off. Wonder how it runs with HW on and decent OC but i dont think its very SLI optimized atm

I was able to hit 60 FPS average with lowering a couple of settings that don't take away too too much from the visual quality. Not quite ready to give up the 780 yet (though there's debate going on elsewhere about what's to blame)

For anyone else who wants to test feel free to try.

For me postprocessing

motion blur off
blur off
CA off
Vignette off

I do those first few in every game anyway (personal pref)

AA off (Feel free to use FXAA in control panel if you want or reshade fxaa/smaa)

HBAO+
DoF on
Sharpening on
Sun shafts on
Bloom on

Graphics

vsync off (use 1/2 rate adaptive from control panel ((120hz panel))
Frames unlimited
Fullscreen

The 3 main settings to mess with would be

Hairworks off (Huge hit on all cards, but going by geforce's tweak guide, and even bigger hit on the 700 and below series due to maxwell's tessellation performance)

Foliage visibility (I used medium, may test with high but prolly gonna drop frames to mid 50's down to high 40's)

http://international.download.nvidia.com/geforce-com/international/comparisons/the-witcher-3-wild-hunt/the-witcher-3-wild-hunt-foliage-visibility-interactive-comparison-1-ultra-vs-medium.html

AND

Shadow quality (I used low. The fps loss between low and ultra is enough to push it from mostly 60 to mostly 50-ish)

http://international.download.nvidia.com/geforce-com/international/comparisons/the-witcher-3-wild-hunt/the-witcher-3-wild-hunt-shadow-quality-interactive-comparison-1-ultra-vs-low.html

Imo it doesn't super impact visuals and it's kept the 780 pushing 60 fps with this game.

Note: and this goes to the debates going on elsewhere, this has been the only recent game I've really had to lower this or that. Guess we'll see what becomes of that whole debate. Maybe some people don't feel like compromising, but I bought this game to play it, and if my 780 is struggling to push every dial up, then I'll tweak till I like it. Then once I upgrade, I'll push some more dials up. Always have
