Overall think TW3 looks easily better than GTA V just due to its consistency... GTA has higher peaks but also lower valleys if I can put it that way, whereas TW3 looks consistently excellent.

It's curious to me the performance problems people are reporting about inability to hit 60fps @ 1080p... I'm sitting around 50fps average at 4k.

says the guy with 2 titanx gpus wink.gif

frankly if i spent 2k on gpus i'd probably be crowing about how good this looks in 4k too. but i think the main concern about the game is how lackluster it looks while it remains rather demanding on the hardware.

Models might be impressive to some extent but I wouldn't call Witcher 3 a very good looking game. Also, considering how the game looks I would have expected it to run a lot better. With such graphics it should provide significantly higher frame rates but no, that is not the case. Only GPU which can run it maxed out at a steady 60 fps is a 1K GPU (Titan X) and all that at 1920x1080. This is just embarrassing.

the vegetation looks great close up, but the farther away you are the worse it looks. crossing country through the brush looks amazing in this game. but riding on a horse along a road all the plant life looks like it came out of 2005. crazy how they get it right AND wrong at the same time.

For anyone else who wants to test feel free to try.

For me postprocessing

motion blur off
blur off
CA off
Vignette off

I do those first few in every game anyway (personal pref)

AA off (Feel free to use FXAA in control panel if you want or reshade fxaa/smaa)

HBAO+
DoF on
Sharpening on
Sun shafts on
Bloom on

Graphics

vsync off (use 1/2 rate adaptive from control panel ((120hz panel))
Frames unlimited
Fullscreen

The 3 main settings to mess with would be

Hairworks off (Huge hit on all cards, but going by geforce's tweak guide, and even bigger hit on the 700 and below series due to maxwell's tessellation performance)

Foliage visibility (I used medium, may test with high but prolly gonna drop frames to mid 50's down to high 40's)

http://international.download.nvidia.com/geforce-com/international/comparisons/the-witcher-3-wild-hunt/the-witcher-3-wild-hunt-foliage-visibility-interactive-comparison-1-ultra-vs-medium.html

AND

Shadow quality (I used low. The fps loss between low and ultra is enough to push it from mostly 60 to mostly 50-ish)

http://international.download.nvidia.com/geforce-com/international/comparisons/the-witcher-3-wild-hunt/the-witcher-3-wild-hunt-shadow-quality-interactive-comparison-1-ultra-vs-low.html

Imo it doesn't super impact visuals and it's kept the 780 pushing 60 fps with this game.

Note: and this goes to the debates going on elsewhere, this has been the only recent game I've really had to lower this or that. Guess we'll see what becomes of that whole debate. Maybe some people don't feel like compromising, but I bought this game to play it, and if my 780 is struggling to push every dial up, then I'll tweak till I like it. Then once I upgrade, I'll push some more dials up. Always have

I'm not ready to upgrade my GPU yet either. I've been testing every setting, and my settings mostly mirror yours. biggrin.gif

I have my shadows on medium, and my foliage on High.

With those settings I get a constant 60FPS. My GPU core is running at 1240 fyi.

I have a similar setup except my 5960X is at 4.6Ghz and I can tell you...not that great. It needs better general game optimization (lots of stuttering, even w/ single cards) and better SLI optimization.

~80-90FPS @ 1440p w/ HairWorks on and everything on Ultra, 90-115FPS w/ HairWorks off and everything on Ultra....Tri-SLI Titan Xs run @ 1450mhz core/5000mhz mem OCs.

Seeing a 980 couple FPS's above a r9 290x (even OC) indeed makes you wonder uh..

+rep. Thanks for posting this. I have a 780 Ti Classy myself. I'm not quite ready to start playing the game but I did try it out and was only getting 30-40 fps in-game with ultra settings and high post fx on 1080P. I never bothered messing with any settings yet. I'll keep this in mind for when I get around to playing.

spoiler for the first zone thingie till you have to leave again Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
You find a great steel and silver upgrade in the first zone.
Go to every ?.

Also playing on Blood and broken sword, stuff being able to 3shot you when you are in a bad spot sure keeps me on my toes of what is going on around me.
The Griphon was a great fight, constantly dodging out of the way (i alternate between actually dodging to hit and rolling to get the hell away) Aard seemed to hit it not really stun it but more confused it for a second, enough to get a couple hits in and get away. Went better if you hit him in the air, crashes down like a sack of potatoes tongue.gif
I found that bestiary is invaluable when tackling stuff since it explains the weakness of the monster, also read the text.

Im not sure what difficulty level you are on, Im a notch above normal and I didn't use the crossbow. I primarily relied on Igni and fast attacks, though my fast attack damage skill was maxxed out.

Im not really understanding it either. There are various positives and negatives to both titles, but TW3 is the all around better looking game (imo).

For those having some issue, I gained a considerable amount of fps simply by not running the frame limiting option and the vsync option together (about 10%+ performance gain)

Also the title doesn't seem to like Afterburner or Rivatuner (at least when used with Nvidia).
