[Build Log] Budget HTPC Home Theather Media & Game Build. (Fractal Design Node 304)

Hey again,

Back for a HTPC build and this time looking for some help, just in case you missed the pc gaming custom loop water cooled that I build from 2012 heres the link Click here.

We (Wife and I) still use the same gaming pc build in 2012, its still a powerful pc for us and does everything we need and more. We're now focusing on the multi media living room where we spent most of our time watching 1080p/Blu-ray movies, surfing the internet, streaming, and some gaming. The HTPC will be connect to a Yamaha 5.1 receiver via hdmi cable, the display is a Sony hw40es projector.

Unlike the 2012 pc build, this will be a 500-550 dollar budget before tax and shipping, we find no reason to spend more since the gaming pc will be taking care of everything else in terms of heavy gaming. Here's the part list that I came up with and hope some of you can help and improve to make the system a "bang for your buck".

For those who haven't been following, my original plan (parts list below under old parts list) on a HTPC Silverstone ml06 case, this would allow me to use the space below the Yamaha receiver keeping it clean. The main reason the change to this setup was cost and the added option of pc parts vs. a HTPC mini itx case. With the new tower mini itx case, I was able to find better deals on power supply and more option on the gpu.

Been searching on the ml06 case and found a different version of the ml06, the ML06-E which will be available in USA by next month. This is very exiting as this version has 2 pci-e slots allowing more flexibility for a bigger gpu. The picture attach below you can see the ml06-e fits a double slot graphic card! not only that but the gpu will be getting plenty of fresh air. I'm very happy with this improvement, it makes more sense and gives the user more option.

is there a reason not to recommend a gpu? we will be doing little bit of everything 3D movies, Blu-ray, streaming, and some gaming. I'm having mixed feelings about going gpu or upgrading the cpu and no gpu, my reason to having a gpu will allow some room for more intense gpu games in setting that works. I do plan on using steam app for games, I'm also open for AMD CPU.

after hours of reading and learning on mini itx builds, which usually make things more expensive wink.gif. Similar to the 2012 pc build (in my profile), its best for me to build how I would want it to be and enjoy it without worrying about it later.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Pentium G3258 3.2GHz Dual-Core Processor ($49.99 @ Micro Center)
Motherboard: ASRock Z97E-ITX/ac Mini ITX LGA1150 Motherboard ($111.98 @ Newegg)

Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB Video Card ($138.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Power Supply: Silverstone Strider Gold 450W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular SFX Power Supply ($81.00 @ SuperBiiz)
Total: $481.45

By removing the Blu-ray/DVD burner slot disc drive, this allowed more room for better PSU, ram, and motherboard.

Plan has change a bit like always, decided to change up the case to a mini-itx tower case, this allows me more room to grow and more option to my liking. I always wanted to build a mini-itx case, and this would be a good chance too. I will now be using a full size graphic card and a atx power supply. Got everything ordered last night and will be picking them up from newegg will call thumb.gif. stay toon for unboxing and pictures.
