Haven't changed my mb, but since summer 2010, I have upgraded everything except MB. I went from a lapped 955BE to a lapped 965BE for the sheer foi. Then 1055t up to 1100t. Went from 5770 to 6870 and now CF 6870. I have upgraded my PSU to 850w Corsair HX modular changed my RAM 5 times and gone from h50 which was solid to cm hyper 212EVO and landed on custom water cooling.
I could a saved $45 had I simply gone with the HX unit over the CM500pro. I didn't think that I was going to stay on my system for this long and never thought about the future of it til I had it for a year. After that B00M! The upgrade bug bit me hard ani ain't been looking back. Some were. Worthwhile and a few were for the foi factor. Simply because I can.
You just never know what you intend to do til after you start a build and run it. Until then it's all speculative.
Oh an if you knew what you were talking about, you'd know that 16gb of ram is the max the CIVF can use. That running 2 sticks of RAM allows for a more stable OC and that by maxing my RAM, I get better use of two slots and having the 850w PSU will allow me to upgrade from my current GPU setup without issue. But her all about "overkill much?" an you don't even know there are reasons for every scenario. Again there ain't much difference to be found in latency so long as your RAM handles MTsp responsibilities just fine. The difference of even 1600 c9 and 1600 c11, is negligible at best and you can't even see that. 11 may handle response time slower than 9 but you cannot snap your fingers before the to latencies have cycled 5 times through.
