Is my system ready for crossfire?

Thread Starter
Just finished phase 1 building my new rig. Preparing for first time crossfire setup, here's my current rig

AsRock X99 Extreme6/ac
GSkill 16gb DDR4 F4-3000C15Q
i7 5820K 3.3Ghz (no oc)
Kraken X41 CPU cooler
XFX R9 290 DD 4gb
EVGA 1000w G2
Samsung 850 SSD 250Gb
Samsung S34E790C (not 4K, still awesome)
NZXT Phantom 410

My single 290 ain't enough, so I've got the following choices:

1) CF with another XFX 290 4gb
2) CF 2 x XFX 290x 4gb
3) CF 2 x Sapphire 290x Vapor-x 8gb

Option 1 is cheapest, option 2 gives me only 4gb VRAM, option 3 is wallet killer, but doable ;-)

Let's remember AMD cards are a little more flexible for crossfire than nvidia sli. 290 as far as i know can work with a 290X card.

get a cheap 290 if you can't wait for the 300 series. cheap as in $200 used.

edit: i read newer games are using over 4GB of vram. i've seen 3750MB usage per car in BF4 in 4K. No AA.

You seem good to go. My only recommendations are really to make sure you've got at least one slot free in between each card starting with the bottom of the first, so they can breathe.

300 series cards? When? Price will be too much, heck, vapor-x cards are $550, that's my limit
