GTX 980 is nothing more than a mid-range video card now... nowhere near high-end. - Page 8

It makes perfect sense to me.

It makes the game stand the test of time, instead of looking crap within a year of release, there will still be settings you can crank up with your next GPU and make it look slightly nicer.

It's really smart to make a game this way.

As many people have said you don't need every setting on max to enjoy it, and for it to look epic.

so a card is 9 months old, still the best card you can get (minus a $1k "prosumer" card) and its magically "mid-tier"... until something from AMD or even NVIDIA (ala 980ti) it is still a HIGH END card... lol... i can say that the 750ti isnt a high-low end card, doesn't make it true... remember there have always been games that the highest single gpu card could not max out? where the hell do you think we got "yeah, but can it run crysis?" i have a 4k monitor with a single 980, can i MAX everything out? no, not even close... can i play things on high with a few sacrifices here and there, and still be glorious and beautiful? YES! ridiculous argument is ridiculous..

console looks pretty good value right now if 1000k gpu's (or two) are needed to run it max.

Console=$400+TW3 looks really good
PC= skyisthelimit$$$$+looks better than console but not OMG better

I think some of the opinions here are a little extreme (omg on OCN, noo...). I'm not sure you can say the GTX980 is a midrange card, although I agree it will be shortly maybe in 6 months time. I'd rather Developers put in all the options that when maxed out can cripple current hardware rather than not put them in at all. That way in 2-3 years when I have new hardware and go back to playing an old favorite, the game looks and plays better than ever. As long as the game scales downward as well, still looks good on medium/high settings on slightly older hardware, then I dont see the need to complain.

Have you been actually looking at witcher 3 on consoles?
Stable 20fps during most of the gameplay, 30 sometimes, terrible popups, overall terrible graphics, little to no view distance...
I can run it 1440p 60fps with my 780 Ti (300-400$ now) without hairworks and vegetation distance on high (no difference from ultra).

I also have a 780 Ti. I let GeForce experience optimize settings for me and it set a lot to medium. Did you manually set your video options up? Mind telling me what your settings are set to?

Everything is on ultra, except vegetation render distance (dunno the correct name, its 3rd from the bottom in graphics) that is on high. Hairworks off. CPU OC'd to 4.6, GPU is +270MHz core.
