[SC] AMD Fiji GPU will not be in the 300 Series but rather a Titan-esque card! - Page 5

I don't see the problem here? The 300 series will take on the 980/970 and probably beat them, and the "Halo" card will take on the Titan and probably beat them. What are people angry about?

People are frustrated the 380 are rebrands of an already rebranded card from years ago and probably won't beat them. Also that 390x might be hawaii and not fiji.

Fiji is stillborn, and AMD is dead

You are dead wrong. The exercise of this card was to bring new future tech out onto the market which is HBM. 4 gig of GDDR5 cannot be compair with 4 gig of HBM. The bus speed on the interposser is a holl lot faster than GDDR5.

if this is all true of course LOL

If this is the case, which I'm worried that it may be, ATI can rot for all I care. The only way I will buy ATI over Nvidia is if they're cheaper and faster. After the software issues with my 7850/7950 the only way I still stay with ATI is if there is a significant financial difference. If there isn't then Nvidia will be the ones getting my money.

I'm still going to wait for the 390X (or whatever it may be called) to hit. When it hits to the victor goes the spoils.

The primary cause of this is that AMD has been completely unable to set its prices high enough (versus cost of goods sold + R&D costs) to be consistently profitable over time.

The way I see it, there are three major reasons for that:
1) Bulldozer and its successors being massive failures (both technically and financially).
2) Llano being greatly delayed, along with its "Fusion" successors (Kaveri, Richland, etc.) never catching on in the marketplace.
3) Their disastrous "take-or-pay" Wafer Supply Agreement with Global Foundries, which requires AMD to buy X amount of wafers for Y dollars even if there isn't nearly enough demand for AMD's products to justify buying anywhere near that much silicon. It's been a millstone around AMD's neck ever since they sold their fabs back in 2009.

The erosion of AMD's dGPU marketshare from ~40% in 2010 down to <25% currently certainly isn't helping things, but it's certainly not the key driver in their stock tanking.

I have no problem with AMD rebrand. My 280x was also rebrand and is still a excellent choice for 1080p gaming!

I wish I could wait till next year to upgrade, but I'm going to have to jump on something this year. If 390X is a direct rebrand of 290X I'm staying far away, but if we can get performance that beats 980 most of the time, 8GB memory, tdp @ 200W and price around $400-449 I would be very interested. But it sounds unlikely to me.

Some people really baffle me with their thoughts sometimes. So yes it sucks if this is true and why wouldn't it be. The first real innovation in GPU's other than faster, more cores, more ram, and everything else that we have seen in the past couple years. AMD will sell just as many of these as they need to and if selling high doesn't work then cut the price.

So we have AMD rebranding most of the line with the types of things that a 290x user has no reason to upgrade to. Update your bios and bring your clocks to at least 390x levels and enjoy your upgrade. To me the GTX 980 and the 290x are a draw. I have two 295x2's and couldn't be happier. I also have four GTX780ti's which didn't make sense to upgrade to GTX980 from what is had.

AMD will make enough money initially on whatever they are calling their card. Then the 8gb versions will come out at some point and you will see the four gb version go up against the 980ti and the 8gb versions go against Titan X. The timing is all out of whack it seems on both sides but hey the Asus DCII 780ti's were under $600 each when I bought them and then I got both 395x2's from XFX for $550. They were $1500 last year and now are down 60% of what a lot of people paid not long ago.

Looks like Fiji is going for the space in the gap from 290x/390x to the 295x2/395x2. Bios update and increased clocks are coming free to those that already have a card. I have no need to update from what is listed above and for that I am grateful.

I hope this isn't the case, we can only keep waiting right rolleyes.gif

We've waited 6 months already, what's another 2-3 weeks? tongue.gif

Honestly though, would you prefer the rumor mill kept radio silence until about 2 weeks before launch? Not directed at you, but it just seems to me AMD can't win sometimes. No rumors = OMG AMD where the new cards at why won't you say anything?? Then when rumors start going around it's "goddamn AMD just release the cards already and stop teasing!"

I think it's important to treat rumors as just that, rumors. And beware of the confirmation bias.

I see the only reason for trying to do fiji as halo for launch if this holds true is because of yield issues. AMD cannot afford to have a "halo" product, and I would rather them use something like a dual-GPU fiji class 395X2 to be their "halo product" considering DX12 treats CF/SLI so differently. If you look at rebrands as bad though, it keeps older setups still kicking. 7900 Series vs 680 for one, GCN is a unified platform...also it gives you more opportunity to just crossfire with what you already have than put it out to pasture which saves you money if you happen to own one of the rebranded models and still have opportunity for things like sales vs. just ebay hunting or watching prices inflate on new because its EOL.

Nvid still has everything down to 8600 AGP even being fabbed still by AIBs....so its not like omg amd still has old archs still in use they should be shameful....both do it lol one just doesn't bother renaming
