I find it very unlikely AMD would fold anyway. They would either sell off the GPU sector or put themselves up for sale to someone like Samsung.

Agreed. I think AMD would be absorbed by someone like Samsung. Only problem is, what happens to their agreement with Intel? That is the big rub with that.

What if Samsung took the GPU side of the house, how would happen with the agreement instead? I forgot what the actual agreement is and I'm not a lawyer so I'm not wise in those semantics.

I feel like Samsungs fabs and knowledge of die size would do WONDERS for AMD. Not including revenue and R&D.

The only way Amd has a chance is to release a fiji dual gpu card that is twice as fast as Titan X for $1500. Nvidia has done nothing really since the gtx690 when it comes to dual gpu cards. The TitanZ was a disaster. Dropping a $800 Fiji single gpu that is equal to the Titan X or the upcoming 980Ti in performance will further put Amd into the hole. They need to make a big splash in both performance and price if they wan't to turn things around.

All companies do that ... it's called marketing. LoL! Aside from that ... Nvidia has always offered me the best product aside from a few wacky drivers no issues. The two ATI cards I had back in the day were hideously terrible and I promised not to go back. I will most likely give them a go in the future, maybe even the 390X. I have no issue supporting a company that offers me what I am looking for.

That would still exist I'm sure. I would assume the contracts would be rewritten, but more than likely the GPU side would be treated like its own company inside Samsung. Similar to Cadillac, Buick, Chevy are separate entities inside GM. Of course this is all just speculation.

The agreement is about the licensing for x64/x86 and has nothing to do with GPU's.

Will this licensing crap for x86/x64 ever expire so other people like IBM , Nvidia , Samsung , etc can make CPU's to compete against Intel , market is so stagnit with AMD struggling to compete in the desktop side of things, and they are losing a tone of market share to Nvidia on the graphics side of things.

I miss the ATI 4xxx/5xxx series era, gave Nvidia a beating , since AMD took over they have slowly becoming more and more meh

I am not talking aboiut their Marketing that claimed some misinformation(like the DX11 vs Mantle)

I am talking about the fools that nvidia did to,The customer who got a GK104, at a price of the lastest high end gpu, being just a midrnage one, which also had a lot of crippled Compute performance, those customer who got 3,5GB+0.5GB cards which had performance issue whenever they reach 3.5gb+,those customer who own kepler cards and have lower performance than AMD alternative given nvidia stopped improving the driver for the GK cards, those customer who got a Titan X with crippled FP64, those customers who got an amd card(being an older nvidia vidoe card owner) and then nvidia on gameworks titles which basically reduces AMD performance ,and no giving a chance to AMD to improve the drivers for those game because gameworks is a closed code.

Ahhhh I see, and those were the days, the same days as well as AMD CPUs kicking butt.

I sincerely wish Samsung bought out ATI and not AMD. We'd have a whole different market spread and a butt load of technology advancements.

If Samsung took the GPU side of things, that would work.

Basically this is the x86/x64 License agreement that both companies have in place. If AMD folds or sells, then the agreement isn't transferable, thus if AMD sells to Samsung, unless Intel is willing to start a TOTALLY NEW agreement, Samsung basically would be getting squat since in order to make x86 CPUs, AMD has to abide by the license agreement they entered into LONG AGO. Likewise, if AMD sells out to Samsung, then the agreement for the x64 is null and void. If that happened, Intel and Samsung would have to negotiate a new deal, because the old one automatically terminates.

That's why things like ARM are being looked at by other companies, they don't have the x86 issue owned by Intel, which is why Samsung uses ARM a lot.

Same here. I loved my ATI 4870X2's. I had a pair of them and ran Quadfire.
