Help me find a CPU?

Thread Starter
I am looking for something cheap but capable of playing new releases. I will be using it along side with a mid/high range GPU and or SLI.
I want to get a motherboard as well. More then likely I will be buying used. I want to spend around $200 USED on both the mobo and CPU.

Okay, just being as honest as I possibly can here, but if you expect 60 fps minimum with a high-end (TitanX, upcoming 390X) card or some kind of SLI/crossfire arrangement at max settings, then you may not find an AMD CPU to your liking. Even with a 9590, you are going to get some dips below 60 fps.

If 30 fps minimum is good enough for you, then you can get it done with an octal-core FX, no problem.

$200 is your total budget for motherboard and CPU? You may struggle in that department, especially if you expect to find a board with good support for SLI/Crossfire.

Thats fine, like I said I would get a i7 if I could afford it but I cant, so I have to deal with what I have. What ever I get will be better then my q6600. Im really looking for bang for the buck. Even if there are better CPU's that offer more bang for the buck that are outside my price range I would like to know about them.

Not a expert by any means but try a fx-6350 and a MSI gaming 970 board. Should be able to find that combo under 2bills.

As asked previously, are you near a Microcenter? That changes everything if you are because you can get an 8320e/970a-ud3p for less than $200. Add a budget cooler for ~$25 and you're set.

If you aren't, this would work:
PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i3-4160 3.6GHz Dual-Core Processor ($109.95 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: ASRock H97M PRO4 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($71.98 @ Newegg)
Total: $181.93
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

$16 more and you get 8 cores that can be overclocked instead of the locked dual core i3

Here is a fx8 @ 4.5 + R290 vs locked i5 @ 3.3 + 290

If you are that close to a microcenter, take advantage of it. Yes I said close smile.gif some people are a whole state away from a microcenter.
