[Reddit] Witcher 3 HairWorks now works on AMD cards smoothly CC Tweak

For people on Team Red that are gaga over HW, I found a post how you can run the game manageably with HW.
At 1440p I get 45 fps avg with R9 290 @ 1100mhz

Shadows (low)
Foillage density (medium)
Terrain (high)
Water (High)
Foilage visible distance (medium)
Turned off all Post processing except for SSAO and DOF and Bloom
Didn't do it for performance but because I like it sharper and it looks sharper with everything off

Hairworks 16X tessellation via CC.
Hairworks AA X4 via Config file

Cheers and someone give the man who figured this out a slice of Ukraine. Now if we can figure out a way to get rid of the painted grass and water and terrain

All you need to do is make a Witcher 3.exe profile on CC and use override application tessellation settings and set tessellation level to any that works well with your card. I am at 16x right now and not just hair is improved but the environment is actually better tessellated on CC

Yep, confirmed working. Brilliant!

Running 8x tessellation and getting ~50fps @ 1440p. Would be getting 30fps otherwise.

LOL! For once something Nvidia runs better on AMD!
This is so ironic... AMD has that driver option because of the Crysis 2 tessellation debacle. And now AMD users can fine tune tessellation and get their performance back but keep the visuals, while Nvidia owners can't. It's one of those occasions where Nvidia's strategy is backfiring again.

Haha I know right. I really can't believe how well HW runs on my 290 now. I did turn down shadows to med (no noticeable changes) have SSAO and turned foilage distance thing to high. Everything else is on Ultra and I am getting 45 fps on average. 50 to 60 in those cool places but 45 overall biggrin.gif

Don't forget too that AMD's drivers suck too. Too many options apparently! tongue.gif

Not this month, even as a joke, not with the wobbly latest WHQL Nvidia drivers. This is Nvidia's mensis horribilis.

Honestly have had 0 issues with my 6950, then my 7970, and I got the 290x at launch and still have 0 issues, I will admit crossfire is garbage though. I still prefer AMD though, games generally run great for me and I don't have to update my drivers monthly like nvidia owners to gain 3 extra frames, which is minute for me, as I run at 1440p and the 512bit bus already nets me those extra frames. xD

Same here. I don't know why people that use Nvidia only now had so many AMD problems in the past. Almost starting to not believe them

Anyways people! 16x tessellation on and just had a fight with FIVE wolves and I never fell below 30FPS. This works. Totally legit.

Also 16x is very full fur and hair. 8x and it's too thin in my opinion. 4x looks fine for Gerald but horrible on animals and the such.

Alright I'll go to 16x and dial back another setting. I did think HW looks wierd on humans at 8x. Thanks for the tip. Not sure why I didn't bother.

And about what the rest of you are saying with AMD drivers. I'll repeat what I have said in the past many threads. I had a 5970 dual gpu. Had no problems. Had a 4850, no problems. Now on a 290 no problems. All my games run fine granted I don't use 16xaa nor do I need to especially at 1440p. Now for modern CFX users, I can understand some frustrations but with my old dual GPU and to this day, Got no problems and its why I keep buying AMD. even if I did have problems, I will not willingly contribute to a monoply

its really RNG for a lot of people. i myself have almost no issues with my 7850, then 7970. but despite that, helping my friend overseas with his APU build, gets alot of BSOD's regardless of alot of thing i told him that he should do. All the people close to me where I have recommended either a AMD or Nvidia GPU so far hasn't ran into many problems yet(friend with 7850, another with a 660, then a 780, step brother with dual 660's, cousin with a 280x). Those with problems tend to be a minority.

though Xfire is of course a different beast. Much less reliable compared to its competitor, but usable in some cases.
