I am at work right now, so ill have to check the hariworks tesselation later though. but with shadows mid and foliage distance high, thats about what i get. i can even keep AA On and ambient occlusion high.

But i dont get the picks of 50~60 in any part of the game though.

I was getting those frames with 8X tessellation but I went up to 16x and it dropped. However I took shadows to low and set foliage density to medium and I get 40 fps on average across the board. And are you on a 280 or 290?

Make sure you set Overrid App settings and not AMD optimized on CC. And makes sure that when you click on general settings that you did not use the same settings. Use default CC settings on general settings but make the tessellation changes only specific to Witcher.exe

280. thats my point!

if i turn hairworks ON, i lose about 15 fps, so i need to check if this ccc setting does any damage on my frames. but only later.

Well i'd assume a 290 an overclocked one at that which is what I have would run it better.

But Um please make sure you did override and not use AMD optimised for .exe app settings in CC and make sure you kept general settings as stock

Eitherway, no matter I tweak the fps would be 27fps with the defualt HW. This trick has done wonders for my performance with HW. Like a 10fps jump

Thx, indeed I had override on general settings and not in witcher 3.exe

with that on x16, I get 33-34 fps instead of 26 in my test spot.

I suppose Maxwell has a tesselation upgrade over Kepler? Has anyone tested it?

Not really, and both Kepler and MAxwell kill GCN, so it must be something besides raw performance at play.

Try lowering shadows. Just set it to low. I know we like to brag on having ultra but when it comes to W3, Low shadows looks the same as ultra. Its a joke really. I tell you this because on my 290 at 1100mhz, I average 40-45 fps. makes a difference.

Its almost as if CDPR is trolling us. Its like the put ultra settings just to kill performance and nothing else

However they are doing the HW, it's almost retarded. How much screen space is the hair taking yet it requires a stupid investment of tessellation that is hammering everything. Obviously, the cost is more than users are willing to bear.

So the Fix is to lower tessellation, not just for the hair, but for everything? That's cool, kinda odd that you cant control that in the Witcher 3 options. AMD struggles with tessellation, there should be an option for that. Im sure NVidia struggles with some other thing, and that should also be an option.

It's a bit odd that the Devs didnt do anything... they didnt try to find a little twiek like this... they just said turn it off.

Hairworks has been around for almost a year.... what can AMD do to improve their performance with this? Is this a driver optimization thing? Do they need to ask the Devs to include TressFX? =( So much technical knowledge for me to read up on... too little time.

You know, there is no visible difference between the default tessellation via the stock Nvidia hairworks and routing the hairworks through AMD CC. I'm beginning to see a lot of settings that I have tweaked to go from low to ultra have no noticeable difference on the image quality.

I'll take it any day. I'm done following an Ultra preset just for the sake of it when it provides absolutely no difference in quality besides killing performance

I really wish TressFX was in the game. Also hope there is a way for AMD to do physics like Nvidia does it via gameworks
