Key Questions and Answers from the article/interview
Quote:
Did the console versions restrict the PC version?
"If the consoles are not involved there is no Witcher 3 as it is," answers Marcin Iwinski, definitively. "We can lay it out that simply. We just cannot afford it, because consoles allow us to go higher in terms of the possible or achievable sales; have a higher budget for the game, and invest it all into developing this huge, gigantic world."

Why did the graphics change?

"If you're looking at the development process," Iwinski begins, "we do a certain build for a tradeshow and you pack it, it works, it looks amazing. And you are extremely far away from completing the game. Then you put it in the open-world, regardless of the platform, and it's like 'oh, it doesn't really work'. We've already showed it, now we have to make it work. And then we try to make it work on a huge scale.
This is the nature of games development."
It's a similar story for environments, and their texture sizes and incidental objects. It was a trade-off between keeping that aspect of them or their unique, handmade design. And the team chose the latter. The data-streaming system couldn't handle everything while Geralt galloped around.

The billowing smoke and roaring fire from the trailer?
"It's a global system and it will kill PC because transparencies - without DirectX 12 it does't work good in every game." So he killed it for the greater good, and he focused on making sure the 5000 doors in Novigrad worked instead.

"People are saying that 2013 was better but actually there's plenty of things that improved since 2013," Michal Platkow-Gilewski points out. "Size of the world, frames-per-second..."

Why didn't you say anything until now?
"Frankly speaking because we didn't see it as a problem," Iwinski admits. They didn't ignore the issue: every tweet, every mention of the issue for weeks now has been sent to the tech team to immediately address - and I've seen firsthand how closely they monitor everything said about the game and how much they care.

"You're saying that we should have said 'hey we've changed stuff and now it looks like this'?" he asks. As it was, I tell him, it looked like CD Projekt Red had something to hide. "So actually here we strongly disagree," he returns, "because we are not trying to hide anything." You can't hide what people can so easily compare and see, adds Badowski.

[Personally for me]It's sugarcoated and I think you could pull it off it's just simply they needed to focus on getting the game to work on consoles. With how little changes some of the Ultra settings make when compared to low settings and with how much of a peformance hit you can get, I am not inclined to believe that we couldn't get this stuff because our HW couldn't handle it.

But Atleast the finally admitted it. Fun game nonetheless. Does take some time to adjust from Witcher 2. I do appreciate the new map, waypoint tracker and overall much better navigation though

Anyway, this was what i was suspected, they choose a downgrade over the removal of open world and i don't mind it a bit.
It's still a great looking game just not 2 generations ahead like that 2013 trailer.

Can everyone stop crying about the pre-release trailers now and just enjoy what is an excellent, great looking final game? Is that too much to ask?

Done. I actually thought for some reason we are supposed to change Article titles when we post them here. For some weird reason

I would and I am trying to but the gras, terrain and water are such an eyesore. I actually think Skyrim had the same if not better foilage. I know I didn't complain about Skyrim because it looked good and didn't bother me. If this game's visuals didnt bother me, I would not be here posting and trying to find ways to get around it. For me its no longer about the downgrade but with how the game actually looks. This game looks like an oil painting in motion except when you cut in close to the characters when talking. Thats it

Some folks on this forum can't handle the truth, like the poster above. rolleyes.gif

The only thing that bothers me is the lighting on the grass/trees/etc. It's just weird that it doesn't really self-shadow at all so it's just either fully lit or fully shaded in many lighting conditions. Water/terrain just strike me as average.

I haven't tried yet but can you actually ride around the whole map between the cities?

And With how little changes some of the Ultra settings make when compared to low settings and with how much of a peformance hit you can get, I am not inclined to believe that we couldn't get 2013 because our HW couldn't handle it.

Also with how different characters look up close in convos as opposed to when their not, I think some tricks could have been played to squeeze out close to 2013.

I am enjoying the game, I really enjoy it. A good few hours in and it's alot of fun story and gameplay wise and still looks pritty good).

But that person argued for countless 100 pages that there was no downgrade then the developer out right came out and said they downgraded it but still he argued till he was blue in the face. No good comes from shilling, you need to be able to admit the good and bad about developers/games or we get no where. Then he just had to come in to shill some more in a new thread setting the tone for the thread two posts in, yet you say I am the broken record repeating myself?!

No, I didn't, and you are full of crap in this post. Don't put words in my mouth.

I said they didn't do anything WRONG in downgrading the visuals to their final version, and I said that I thought it was obvious for the past year that a downgrade was in place and therefore can't understand why everyone got so upset about it now. I've also argued that despite the downgrade, the game still looks great.

If you care to interact with things I posted in other threads, please, feel free to actually quote me.

Now I thoroughly enjoy the game and I have no complaints other than the entirely terrible looking lightning decal they use (they should have kept it all behind the clouds) But I would like to point out that Star Citizen, a PC only game with sole corwdfunding, is at EIGHTY TWO MILLION DOLLARS. Pretending you NEED the money from consoles is a little delusional. But again, I've no complaints and I love the game.
