ASUS X99 Sabertooth Owners Thread - Page 138

I would go up on the core count. At least grab an Octa core when you are at it. I see no point of going from 6 core to 6 core.

What do you use your machine for is the question you should ask. Does it require a lot of heavy threading? Does it require a lot of high frequency operation?

In the end it is your money to spend. Just make sure you get the best value possible.

Also with AMD Zen around the corner I would recommend you wait a little while. The new pricing of BWE is big FU from Intel to consumers. If AMD Zen is good enough it will force down the cost of BWE.

6 core to 6 core is the cheapest upgrade to the new tech. I have no use case for even 6 cores at this time other than gaming, but one never knows about the future. I'm toying with the 10 core just for bragging rights LOL. but it is slower unless the application can take advantage of the cores.

Hey I upgraded my Sabertooth x99 BIOS to support Broadwell-E, so I should at least do it!

I hope AMD does challenge Intel as soon as possible. It's good for the consumer.

6850K vs 5930K is not really an upgrade rather, an unneeded sidegrade.

Yes, it's faster clock to clock. But overclockability shown with these early chips leave nothing to be desired of. 5930Ks can easily trump 4.5 but the best BW-E chips can do is 4.2. They also removed Cache OC so that still favors HE. Along with poor memory controllers shown on early/current samples.

X2 on this this!

Unless you are going 8 core or 10 core. There is no reason at all to go from a 6 core to another 6 core

He did mention running stock though. So 3.6 vs 3.5 might matter a bit. biggrin.gif

Plus the independent core speed thingy, oooh I bet that runs battlefield better!

Honestly I could get by with my Z170 Skylake and not notice a thing, so it's all techy from here!

I vote for moose getting a 6950x! Nothing beats a freaking 10 core! Go for some Trident 128GB RAM as well!

I actually wouldn't mind having one but 1,800 plus tax is ridiculous. I predict Intel is going to belly flop on that one.

It looks like a marketing strategy to me, to make more people buy the core below it as the 1.5k AUS the 6900K costs is looking much more affordable compared to the 2.5k of the 6950x.

I7-6850K purchased, but I had to cancel.

My computing requirements don't justify the expense!
