i3 for online games

Is i3 with Hyperthreading good CPU for online games like cs go and dota2,mmos and coops, playing comfortably with some background programs like music and browsers etc?
I can't decide whether to take i3 or i5 with the same GPU.I'm also afraid i3 will be **** soon cause everyones talking about multi core games.Or maybe I should get fx 6300 and leave it at stock?

For most mmo's the i3 becomes a bit of a bottleneck, what GPU are you getting?

I would go with an i5 in this case. FX 6300 and the AM3+ is a dead socket with the only upgrade path to a FX 83xx unit. An i5 will last you a minimum of 4 years. Buddy of mine is still running a 2500k and it performs on part with my 4690K as we both have the same GPU (280x).

If you do need more cores, get an FX 83xx and sit with that for a couple of years.

Pretty much this, any unlocked i5, from the 2500k and up is a no brainer for gaming. I think the 2500k can be had for like $130 and 1155 socket ain't so bad or outdated.

The i3 is a great choice if you're budget constrained.

if yuor games arent totally singlethreaded. an FX 83xx could be useful for multitasking

TigerDIrect has a FX 8310 with dirt rally for 105usd.

now if your games are like Starcraft 2, world of warcraft, world of tanks or planetside 2, and FX should be fine
