[Steam] The Witcher 3 Patch v1.03 Released (Performance improvements) - Page 5

Been playing around:

With hairworks CCC Tesselation workaround: 16x I get 34 FPS, 64x I get 28 FPS.

Without hairworks on at all: I get 45 FPS.

Starting to see some nice framerate coming out of the game now. I'm proud of my 7970 biggrin.gif

This game's engine fascinates me! Other games stutter at 30fps, but this one does not. Its always smooth and begins stuttering at about 20fps, which I only get if I downscale from 4K to 1080p via NVidia DSR. Truly wonderful engine!

I play at 40-45fps and it feels like 80fps no joke. Maybe it is because the game is so responsive... Anyway, this game WAS optimized extremely well. Aliasing - 100x better than in GTA V, although it still needs SweetFX 2.0 beta 8 FXAA + SMAA + LumaSharpen to offset FXAA + SMAA blur. Without SMAA and FXAA, there is mild aliasing, but not crazy like in GTA V and without much shimmering!

Doesn't affect my performance at all. Feel like it was definitely an Nvidia update lol

I've noticed that too, but then came to the conclusion that it's not actually all that smooth. The way your character moves is in predefined movements. You cannot turn or stop on a dime, nor can you change your path mid air. Your character has to finish the animation before you can move, or something like that. I then tested it as I turned/panned the camera as slow as I could and you can see the frame jiggle. It's not bad or too annoying, though it's sort of annoying once you realize it. But if you're not looking for it, it does "look" smooth. I haven't played Witcher 2 in years so I don't recall if that old games were the same.

So, can anyone tell me how it runs on a GTX 770 as of 1.03? I really want to try this game, but if I can't get at least 50fps I'm not going to do it.
I'm at 1440p. I don't use AA and I don't mind turning settings down to medium/low or using any sort of hacks/tricks to get a few more FPS.

Is it possible yet or should I wait for new patches and drivers?

To be honest I wouldn't expect you to be able to get 50 FPS on a 770 @ 1440p but that's only because of the state of support for the sub-900 series is getting.

A slight update on my end, I restarted the game from the beginning and the Intro cut scene is broken, no sound and flickers / skips. Only place I've seen it so far, game itself still runs smooth with no problems.

Oh man... so I guess that's it then. My $450 GTX 770 Lightning is obsolete in under 2 years. frown.gif Unless there's a significant performance improvement for sub 900 series either in drivers or patches, I guess this is it. What a shame. I wish I'd gone for the 4GB version for another $40. At the time everyone said "There's no way you'll need 4GB for just one monitor!!" Thanks guys... (Not that an extra 2GB would save me here).

Looks like i'm going to pass on this game. If this game is really this hard to run it ought to look amazing but with the downgraded visuals and other people's opinion it isn't really that great. My 750 Ti probably can't even run it at the lowest settings at a good framerate.

Oh well. Their loss. I'm just going to pick it up when I get a better GPU (R9 370 maybe?) and by then it will be in the bargain bin hopefully. I already got both the first and the second's enhanced editions for only $4.48 at GoG.

I would like to point out, grudgingly ( tongue.gif ) that the game isn't bad by any stretch of the imagination. It looks good and runs good even in the 20-ish fps, the lack of under 900-series support is Nvidia's fault at the moment, more than likely prioritising their latest cards over all others.

I do have some gameplay vid's seeing as I've been messing about with fraps for the first time, they're only 29sec long but 1.3 GB in size atm biggrin.gif

From everything I've read around the 'net and on here AMD are , at the moment, the better cards to go for if you're not on the very latest Nvidia. ( Gotten 42 fps on a 2011 HD7970 6gb so far )
