[Steam] The Witcher 3 Patch v1.03 Released (Performance improvements) - Page 8

Let's face it, Witcher 3 is a sub RPG AAA game. Any reviewer giving this any more then a 6-7, mark them dead in your book. Since either they are shills or they have no idea about games or at least PC games.

Now that I've played it for over 10 hours and find myself on the second map, CDPR have lied about 3 things;

  1. The downgraded visuals.
  2. About game beeing open world.
  3. No loading screens in that open world.

We've all discussed the visual downgrade due to visual parity with the consoles, however no one seems to be outraged with the fact that this is not an open world game. It's more like Dragon Age: Inquisition or Two Worlds II, where you play in varied big zones and to go from zone to zone you do in fact need loading screens.

You can't even compare Witcher 3 to Skyrim (which has also suffered from consolitis since Morrowind);

  1. Hardly anything in the world can be manipulated.
  2. Everything in the world is treated like a treasure chests, even shelf units. It's not like what you see is what you get.
  3. NPC are way dumber and duller, more like bots then anything else. There are less conversations to be had and they run into everything.
  4. You can loot from regular people but not the military. Why? Is it because peasants don't have the right to protest?
  5. They removed anything to do with stealth from Witcher 2. Why?
  6. Why can't I make as many grenades or potions as I want? There is a bug here too; when I used my 2 grenades, the game did not let me make more saying I already had some. My workaround was to drop my 0/2 grenades so I could make more.
  7. Perk trees instead of skill sets still grind my gears. I guess people can't work out skills points since they often affect multiple skills so devs just keep making things easier for the masses.
  8. I hate giving everything an auto icon. Want to blow up a monster nest? Just click on the use icon. Why? I can see that this is a nest, and I can throw my own grenade at it.
  9. Hardly any control when fighting. Give me control over my character. Why does he keep moving forward with every sword swing. Let me do that when I want, otherwise this forward momentum leaves me open to attack.
  10. They show you everything on the map, so it kills the sense of exploration for me.
  11. What's with the "!" a la Japanese Nintendo game for quest givers?
  12. Why are you telling me what level I need to be to tackle a quest? Let me find out for myself.

Some here wanted to give CDPR a pass because well it's an open world and it's difficult to make those you know. Really? It is not an open world, it's just bigger maps. Not much in the world can be manipulated and everything in the world is treated like a treasure chest, unlike Skyrim that has to keep tabs on thousands of items and their displacement. So I don't see why the visuals are so horrible on the PC. Witcher 3 has nothing on Skyrim which has to do a lot more in fact and the visuals are not much better then Skyrim in 2015, but then again we know why. So those that keep excusing the game because "it's open world", please stop. Dumbing down at every turn and holding my hand at every step. At every turn the game keeps reminding me that I'm playing a console game and for console parity's sake.

For a 2011 card I do think it has impressive performance considering the problems 'better' cards are having with the game.
I'll leave this here, I ... generally agree with the review from my playthrough of about 10 hours into the game now:
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
After 5min i couldn't watch the video anymore.

It's the same crap like with the witcher 2 all over again. People refuse to see how the combat system actually works and instead of learning they whine about it.
I am now i think 25+hours in and i have no issue with any of the combat system, learned to dodge right (even with m+k) set up bombs depending on the situation, read the besteria for how to approach each enemy. (very important in this one)
Oh and what he said about lock, well try that in anything above normal and you will get hit so much in the back you die before you know what happened.
Quite ironic that he cries about the combat being bad when wel...he is bad.

One day there will be a reviewer who aint totally crap..maybe.

Witcher 2 was frustrating for me only because of the map. They fixed it in W3 and this is a really fun combat system. Took me an hour to get into it. Soo much fun. I use everything from signs to swords to bombs. Its really good. On Normal, especially early on, you cannot rely on sword alone and definitely do not lock on.

Maybe he is frustrated cause its controller centric so I can see his point but can't you remap the keys. I am playing this with my controller btw

Is that a problem? I dont like running around trying to find stuff. Its boring and time consuming. I want to play and get through the story

Now the GPS doesn;'t stop me from running around and free roaming if I want.

Not gonna lie, I didn't finish W2 because it was too frustrating trying to find my way around, especially with such a small invisible walled game.

Call me casual but my idea of a good time is being able to find what I want to get through the story and also being able to roam when I want to, instead of roaming forever trying to find stuff and Alt-Tabing to switch of my game to look up locations on the net

To be honest then assassins creed unity is quite well done, the npcs, buildings and large environment along with no downgrade.

Ever heard the idiom "the higher you are the harder you fall"? If they only showed AC:U kind of graphic people wouldn't be so hurtful. But no they brought people to the moon and drop them down to Mt Everest, even though it is pretty high, it is still pretty painful.

For me it is. especially with my awesome screen and 12" inch powered 2.1 system. I take in everything. Point A to Point B when I want to and not when I don't want to.

Again maybe I fall into the casuals list but I get frustrated when I am trying to find something and literally it takes me 10 to 30 mins of running around. And I use GPS in real life sooo....

And I do free roam a lot. I also like to get to my mission when I want to save time
