In doubt! R9 290x Matrix X-FIRE or SLI Asus gtx 970

Hello everyone!
Im looking forward to build a new gaming pc, and I'm in doubt about what cards i should choose.
As I intend to get the ROG v-sync monitor or the Benq free-sync monitor, I want to buy two cards so I know I wont have to upgrade again soon. As my budget is not very big, I've got to think to get either two R9 290x Matrix ROG, or two asus 970 but not the strix edition. There is 10$ difference between them from a pc components site in my country. (The 970 is cheaper with 10$)

My other components are:
Asus maximus VII gene
650w corsair RM series (which I'm not sure if it's enough, i'd like if anyone could tell me so I can be sure)
i5 4690k overcloking as high as I possible with a corsair h105
8GB Corsair Vengeance 2400mhz

Every info would be very helpful about which card i should choose, so please give here a little help tongue.gif
Thank you!

no way for 290x cf on 650w PSU. Need 850W at least. 290X CF would prolly be much better for 1440p (xl2730z, isn't it?), but not on this PSU.

Indeed, the xl2730z biggrin.gif
Oh, I see. I shall reconsider the psu then

no need for freesync. tearing is hardly a problem. at least with amd.

depends on the game, not the card. in Dying Light there's no tearing on my 290 even with vsync off. I mean NO tearing, not little tearing. In FC4 or AC4BF the tearing is really bad with vsync off. But you gotta know freesync doesn't work in crossfire. They promised to fix it but hell knows when that might be. Get the 970 SLI and ROG Swift.
And pray Shilka doesn't see this and bash me and you for trying to run 970 sli on RM650.

I would seriously consider replacing that PSU. It is not a must for now, but keep that in mind. It's got enough juice for the system (I'd leave the cards on stock until getting a quality PSU), but the overall build quality is not that great from what I hear around.

Looking for one right now.
Looking at the Super Flower Leadex Gold 850W right now..or the CS850M corsair which im afraid it will be too noisy..smile.gif
Anyway, I will look for another one tongue.gif

just wrap up this part of the conversation, take a look at this:
RM650

SF Leadex 750W

This is ripple suppression test (the quality of power current that your PSU outputs) on the 12V line (the line that goes to your GPUs through 6-pin or 8-pin connectors).
