Not sure if OCN will like it though they don't overclock well redface.gif

As far as the 980Ti goes, in ref form it'll be slower than the Titan X, I think a classi or Hof may catch the Titn X and ultimately be faster once overclocked, but we'll have to wait and see.

980 Ti has to advantage of custom pcb and cooling but i would think Titan X under Water still faster. After 980 Ti is out it would not make sense to get a single Titan X to run in air anymore.

Mmmm well considering what watercooling costs I'm not quite sure that would sway me.
Also 6GB Vram is really on the edge for 4K gaming, which is the future as far as I'm concerned.

The issue is, what will nVidia do? Lately they've been playing cat and mouse and whenever AMD comes out with something that's better nVidia is ready to answer with a "better" product for just a little more MSRP. But what can they do this time? Like its been stated the GM200 is the full shebang in the Titan X (Unlike the GK110 Titan > Titan Black/780Ti GK110)....

So if the 390X matches the Titan X in performance, nVidia might just trump that at higher resolution their GTX 980Ti and Titan X has more VRAM and is better for you spin.

Or if the 390X beats the GTX 980Ti/Titan X in performance, do they already have a new SKU ready to launch?

who knows, but its only a weeks away and I can't wait.

Either way it's a win, if they dont have anything to match it they will drop prices all round and for the first time in a while not be the star child making them work harder(no more 15% bump just because they can, like kepler to maxwell). If they do have an answer to the 390x then great, competition between the two and they will both battle it out by dropping prices and bundling games.

I have a 4k monitor and I am downgrading from sli-Titan X to sli-980ti, mainly because I want some of that AIB goodness..

For 4K resolution 6gb vram is enough. smile.gif
post #146 of 204
If Fiji ends up faster, all Nvidia can do is either release an OC model if that's enough, or push some sort of a dual GPU Titan XX with water cooling for $3000. 980 Ti seems just a cut down product, and most likely Titan X will remain as it is as the fastest GPU Nvidia will offer before 16/14nm. And who knows how long it'll take. Some people here seem to be quite optimistic about how soon they'll see TSMC 16nm GPUs.

If the rumored specs with 4096 stream processors are true, yeah I can understand why it won't overclock all that well. Still, if it really can claim the performance crown, while not getting stifled by that 4GB HBM (I'm sure people will benchmark the crap out of that), then I'm on board. Actually in that case I'll be waiting for the Lightning edition since if I'm going all out might as well go for the best, price be damned.

@looniam: Thank you for that "put up or shut up" post, you're absolutely right, time to put my money where my mouth is. thumb.gif
