That grey ugly shrouds still isn't looking any better than it used to. I'd much rather have something along the lines of the 680, only with less plastic.

I'm new to the PC scene. How long has nvidia been using this shroud design?

Hopefully when they make the GTX1000 series, we will be done with this shroud. Look at the shroud on the (or what might be) 390x. Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

It's beautiful. Maybe the era of MOBOs and VGAs with Tokyo Drift bodykits are over.

What would be the difference in variable costs of that shroud, over say the stock cooler on the 680/plastic?

What is that silver/metallic shroud made of? Also would like to know the the variable cost relative to market prices of the metals/plastics. Wonder if anyone has info?
Shifty Powers.

I thought it was stainless but its not...the whole backplate looks like copper, or anodized aluminum. Probably the former in a full cover block.

But on a $500+ card, it would be easy to make a similar looking design with out being too expensive. When I buy plates of 1/4" US mild steel, it's about a dollar a pound and I buy from a retailer in small quantity. Chrome plating is cheap.
We're not asking for anodized titanium and precision mill/lathe work.
The only part I couldn't make would be the Radeon logo on the side. You would need a water jet for that, and any company mass producing similar items would already have that.

I prefer colored water running through clear acrylic to either. biggrin.gif

At least they make good quality cooling, performs nicely and its "silent" in normal loads around 42dB
amd should follow, instead of using cheap ass heat sinks from 5years ago
lets see if they improve in the next family ....

Once again, no backplate and likely a loud and hot throttler like the Titan X. Reference coolers suck.

Yawn...reference cooler.

Why cant they change the design on first released GPUs?

Anyways, I want to see what the other companies cooler designs will be like, better yet, how much can they lower temps on an already power efficient GPU?

Plus, I need a new GPU and with prices dropping down on R9 290 and 290X, I kind of want to jump on one of them but I would much rather prefer a DX12 fully compatible card than a card that would kind of use DX12 features....
