Bad luck with cpu lottery?

Hi all,

I have system in my signature.

Decided to overclock finally. At stock I have been running @ 4.3ghz solid. My goal was 4.5ghz but I am just not making it there. I went to 1.29v and it still would not run stable. It got to warm to go any higher.

Right now I am at 1.275v on 4.4ghz and still fighting with bsod errors. I am running OCCT because I read up and it runs the best. Prime95 runs way to hot unless at stock.

So any tricks to get 4.5ghz? It shouldn't be that hard for such a small increase. So what you all think, bad luck with the lottery or do i just need to find a way to cool better and try 1.3v? Seems like a lot of voltage. Maybe I should just get 4.4ghz stable and call it a day?

Any help is appreciated!

Adam

what is your ambient temp? what speed are your fans running at? is your h100i pulling air into or blowing air out of the case?

what temp is your cpu hitting?
my 2500k @ 4.5ghz with 1.336v vcore with ambient of 20-22*C with h100 hit max temp of 63*C under p95.

so, what are your temps?

Try to stay under 1.3v and 85c under stress

Prime 95 with the ftt setting 1344 min max should be a good test

4770k 4790k arent good overclocker so 4.2-4.6 is like the average i think

Good luck smile.gif

Unsure of the pushing or pulling on the h100i.

I use OCCT to test cpu as for some reason even on stock the p95 runs into the 90's!

Usually I surf, chat and leave OCCT running. At 1.31v 4.5ghz I am maxing at 86c on the hottest cores. Been running 25min no problems. I think obviously any higher and I risk CPU damage.

Probably was one of the nuts on it stripped (either me or dad, probably me LOL)

So I am not on optimal cooling for the h100i.

It seems like 4.4@1.275 is the sweet spot for it, temps about 82c on hottest.

So what you think? More just gimped cooling or do I have crappy luck in the lotto. I really want 4.5ghz but i'm not risking frying my chip to do so.

Oh ya, Ambient are 26c btw smile.gif

If I can only do 4.4ghz sounds like about average for the chip.

Thanks for the reply's!

Adam

Thanks again for the responses. 1.31v looks like my max

Edit 1,31v still not enough, i'm done trying for 100mhz more. Going to see if 4.4ghz is still stable at 1.275 and call it a day.

Bonami said to stay below 1.3v so I guess my chip max is 4.4ghz in a practical setting.I figured I had a good one as 4.3ghz runs at stock no problem. Guess not, damn the chip lottery!! smile.gif

Thanks for the help!

It still a good overclock considering i had an increase at 4.4 in benchmark on my 4790k even if the turbo is at 4.4 it wont stay there all time smile.gif
