Hey all! So I pretty much have always had 1080p monitors up until this past november. I purchased a 1920x1200 monitor for "extra real estate" on the screen and it is nice to have it, however I am not happy with it really as my main monitor.
I just recently purchased an EVGA GTX 980 FTW and I really want to try to ultra max out games with 60 fps on a 1440p monitor. However I really don't know what good 1440p monitors there are but I have been looking around and I came up with a couple that seem like good deals? But I am honestly not 100% sure.
- Has to be IPS
- Has to be 1440p
- Would like it to be under 500$ is possible
- Mainly for gaming (not really FPS shooters, more RPGs)
Out of curiosity, for anyone still reading this, how well would a 980 do at keeping 60 FPS on a 1440p monitor with settings on ultra for most games? I know there are some exceptions to the rule but a general consensus, would a 980 be enough?

More than able to keeping 60 FPS on 1440p as long as you do a moderate overlock. Since yours is already OC'd slightly out of the box, that is a start.
Edit: Would also like to add that I deem a moderate OC necessary only for the "worst" case scenario, meaning like W3 or something as demanding as Crysis 3. Everything else is normally a cake walk for the 980 @ 1440.

Thank you very much, I'm still shopping around for a 1440p monitor. I feel better about getting one now, knowing that the 980 should be enough for it. I was looking at the crossover monitors for around 300-400$ but they don't have displayport and that makes me a little iffy on it.

1440p works fine with DVI. My Yamakasi (very similar to the crossover) only has a single DVI port but it works fine. Also most korean monitors with a single DVI can be overclocked. I have mine sitting at 110Hz.

Hmm interesting. I'm not 100% sure about everything involving monitors, but I thought I had heard something about DisplayPort with using full color vs. DVI? I know that when I use DisplayPort I get a color option in my nvidia control panel, but when I use DVI the setting is gone.

Might be monitor specific on the color options? Not too sure on that as I don't use the color options. It shouldn't matter though since both carry digital signals. Image quality should be identical regardless of which port is used.
I just got into 1440p gaming 2 months ago with my Qnix and man oh man, I'm really loving it especially @100Hz. I can't believe how I used to game on my crappy 1080p TN monitor
I was looking at GSync monitors but I really don't want to spend over 600$ which is what they all seem to be, especially 1440p ones that are IPS.
