[Official] SQUAD - Page 14

My brother wants to buy this game during the Steam sale, but outside of a few things we've looked at, what are your (other users) impressions of this game? We usually play Battlefield and want to get into Arma, but Arma is daunting, hehe. I see that some of you have stated that it's a bit of both.

We love co-op and squad based shooters, is this a good purchase?

It's allot more simple controls than Arma with a high level of authenticity. After Squad came out, I quit playing Arma because it feels better even though it's in alpha stages still. Arma has better bullet drop and ricochet models, but pretty much everything else about Squad is better for me. The only reason I see to buy Arma is if your into making your own missions in the editor and playing them with friends or clan mates. Otherwise, the game is quite dead to me.

The team play of Squad is way more focused on than any other game you would just jump into random players with. If you want to play with people that actually stick together and play as an actual team even when they don't know you, then this is probably the best thing you will ever play. It goes way beyond throwing down ammo or medkit and calling that "team play".

I like playing as a support-ish class in pretty much everything, whether it be a medic or engineer in BF, or a healer/tank in Overwatch. Are there classes in Squad? Is this kind of play rewarded, or is it all about the almighty KDR?

I'm not the best at FPS games, so I usually find enjoyment playing those other utility positions, that no one else wants to play, and feel like I'm really contributing to the success of my team.

There is medics in game that can revive people. Medics win games by reviving people and not losing the team tickets. It doesn't even matter if we lost all the positions and never regain them as long as medics don't let people die you will win. Respawning is a last resort and you almost always wait for a medic.

This isn't like Battlefield where its all about KDR, in fact DKR doesn't matter at all. This isn't a game that rewards XP for unlocks, you pick what kit you want to play or whatever is available at the time.

Honestly, you should just watch DesmoLocke stream on twitch to get a feel for what the game is about. I play with him from time to time and its always fun. LINK

Yeh Arma is to HC for me.
Squad reminds me of what BF2 was until it all went to s*&!
I can't wait for transport heli's. I use to love transporting in BF2.
I remember in BF2 we would have great voip chats on the way over to far points.
Have a laugh, hit the deck and then it's all GO GO GO!
If only the BF series had kept this type of gameplay as a game mode.

Squad isn't even close to BF2, Sorry man, Squad might be a good game, but it is nothing like BF2, and the pace is even more glacier like than ARMA. Squad is very slow, they desperately need them vehicles ASAP, it's just takes too long to get anywhere with some extremely long times between action. And that revive mechanic needs some re-working or something. Nothing screams disappointment, like waiting 5 minutes to shoot someone, but they don't really die.

That is just my opinion. I am not saying it is a bad game, but even though it is less HC then ARMA it also is way slower to me.

I like it... But im starting to see that drawbacks...

Its too easy to have a bad game, unless you have loads of mates or clan members online, it just gets a bit boring abs messy.

At least with battlefield, the ability to change play style meant that you could jump on alone and still have a lot of fun.

At 12pm on a mid week, it's not easy to find fun in Squad.

I did say it "reminds" me of BF2. Of course Squad will be better with some vehicles.
My point I spouse, was that it plays like BF2 when people did use to squads properly for objectives and had voip.
This is what I wanted from the BF series but they went all COD on it imo.

I do think it is fun, I know my post sounded like I didn't. It's just really slow. People are super friendly though, which I love. I also do think when vehicles hit, it will be a much better game, even if it is just to get to the action a tad sooner. I do think that fact alone is going to effect that revive mechanic hugely if a medic can just get in a vehicle and get back quick to revive someone.
