I don't mind saying it: I look forward to this game! I'll play anything doom-related, simply because it brought so much to FPS as we know it today. I was really into the story and lore of Doom when I was a kid, too. Loved the whole concept of the space stations set up on Mars, Phobos, and Deimos. Really felt there was a good backing for some nice scifi/horror writing that could parallel this series back then.

It looks pretty awesome, wonder what the graphic requirements will be

Haven't been this excited for a game in a long time. Big fan of doom here been playing it since I was 10 years old and still play it at least once a week or so. I'm just really hoping the big airy open 'dome' style levels are back in this release. We need the run and gun style to make a comeback. No more shooter on rails please. The visuals look nice and the gore is cool but the playstyle is what's really going to make or break this game.

I think the game play looks a little too quake so far though, so I'm a little worried. The maps don't scream well designed like Doom1/2/Final/64 either, so I guess we'll see. I think it's really going to depend on how good the map creating tool is.

Read my mind I was thinking the exact same thing after watching that multiplayer beta. It screamed Quake which isn't a bad thing but the game needs to feeeeel like doom. That was one of the problems with 3 it didn't feel like doom it felt like dead space. Doom needs that iconic feel back.

first impressions of Doom 4, pretty fun! it is a lot like quake, which is mixed... and alpha gives you such a small glimpse its hard to say how good it will be. It feels really solid, the graphics are pretty good. I just hope there is more than TDM, and the maps have a ton of variety (so we can get some like the old school ones). I know there is lots of hope with the map editor (SnapMap).

One thing I did not like was that there were load outs in TDM, I much prefer pickup systems.

there's no way this is replacing quake for anyone who still plays its multiplayer

I don't think it was trying to replace quake, and I'm hoping the Map Maker is what makes the game what I'd like it to be.

It's alpha man! Basically everyone who has it is submitting feedback that the move speed is currently too slow, so I wouldn't expect it to launch like this. I mean this is ONE map with ONE mode in an alpha test, it's not a good judgement of what the MP will launch like at this point. With a few tweaks and a few fun modes I could see this being pretty successful, especially with SnapMap.

How does the game feel? Does it retain the run and gun style of Doom 2? I saw "quakeish" used which is good. But does the game feel like Doom or feel like Quake with a Doom badge?
How's the ambiance of the game? I guess in a deathmatch environment it's hard to gauge this?
Just looking to see what the general feel of the game is like in regards to what the old ones felt like.

The new Unreal Tournament pre Alpha did a really good job so far of feeling like UT99 which is something that ut2004 and UT3 missed the mark on. So I'm really hoping 2015 doom captures those retro feels.

One thing I saw in the video that bugged me was the "Quad damage" audio. Both the voice that announces it and the noise weapons make when used with it. It's too much like quake. They should call it something else and make it sound different I think. I know it's early and these may be placeholder sounds but still it felt too generic. I get it's an id game but it doesn't have to share that stuff with quake.

Based off the alpha I can only almost undoubtedly say that Quake/UT fans would be happy with the game. I'm a fan of Doom/Quake/UT, so it's hard to say if I was exclusively a Doom fan if I would be pleased with the game. To say I wouldn't at this point would be unfair though, since this test was so limited, and at the very least user generated content using SnapMap will probably fulfill most of our old school Doom level/style/design needs.

Also I think what would be the best indication of being as fun as the original Dooms would be a single player demo, not a MP alpha. I def think based off this that the game has the potential to be pretty fun and Doom like in single player, it's the MP that is probably more quakey than Doomy.

So it's hard to say if it will please all the old school Doom fans at this point in time, but I can at least say its at the very least its likely everyone could be happy because of SnapMaps.

One of the games of 2016 to which I am really looking forward to. Really liked all the footage that I have seen so far, animations and their quality as well as detail are insane, I have never seen such amazing first person animations in a shooter. I also like Doom's fast paced gameplay. Hopefully the game will deliver in terms of gameplay fun, longevity, visuals and performance. Hope those fantastic animations wont be downgraded.
