its not dead but im sure its life span is in rouugh shape...

Mine got hit with 1.7V several months ago, I thought it was surely crippled, but it's still going strong.

Could you post what version of the board....vanilla or 3.1 and what BIOS?

Thanks

Vanilla, I updated the BIOS and it didn't seem to matter which was very odd It was the CMOS resets that finally kicked it out of this weird serious overvoltage state...i was on 1801, i tried updating to 2001 to fix it and it was still hitting my CPU with 1.55v

Yeah mine was hit with 1.55v for about 6-7 hours for long periods of time and over and over again as i rebooted it over and over trying to get it to stop, i surely thought mine was dead. too...1.7v is no joke. I think the Intel stated max is 1.9v (dont quote me ill need to check the site) but im sure ours has some long term affects...

I can still do 4.6GHz at less than 1.3v (1.285 in bios), it'll even run 4.7 there, but will get a random BSOD now and then so I just leave it at 4.6

So I don't know, that thing's a warrior. It runs 90~100% load on all cores for a few hours most evenings, never a hiccup. But I didn't get stuck in an overvoltage loop, just a few seconds one time. I even have the Tuning Plan, I could have fried it up and got a new one, but honestly it's still doing a great job.

That sounds desperate! You try switching to other BIOS chip?

I was desperate, its a thousand dollar chip i wanted to know if it was dead or not and i only have a single x99 motherboard that wanted to keep pumping 1.55v into it for checking if it was still alive. Yes i tried everything, it was almost like it was a bug that worked itself out...and the ASUS call line didnt work out to well either.

yeah mine isnt so much that way anymore used to be able to do 4.7@1.31, now im stable with 4.4@1.3 and for something reason core 1 seems to run warmer, something bad happened to mine, my voltage also gets stuck a ton even though its in adaptive so its always @ 1.3v and never wants to idle anymore even though i have no processes running, its all kinds of jacked up.

Get the tuning plan for $35, wait a month, send it in. Do you have you Windows Power Option set to "Balanced"? If it's on "High Performance", it'll never idle (unless maybe if you have some of the bios power saving features set, never used those).

Yeah i know about the windows power modes, tried those, i tried all the bios power saving modes too, its just been crazy. Ill look into the tuning plan though, thanks.

Very confused on Intel RMA lol. I've RMAed 2 5960x that a rampage v extreme has killed. They sent back two CPUs they said were new and factory sealed that clearly aren't. They are definitely different types of boxes than retail, that doesn't matter. But when looking at what they sent they are either dirty, smudged, scuffed and scratched.

I'm begging to think Intel tests RMAed CPUs and if they check out they box them as recertified, because I can't think of any way they could refurbish one, but they definitely aren't new and that grinds my gears kind of.

First time I've heard that....interesting...maybe they get lots of good chips from muppets that didn't have the power on...and decided to get them back out there. Always had good service from Intel so I kind of presume whatever they send out is 100%...I hope

Though I wouldn't so impressed myself to see fingerprints...any of them good clockers? smile.gif

Tuning plan is a must I reckon...

not seen this occuring much until recently again another spate of ASUS X99 boards....redface.gif
