7970 was also a uefi card so shouldnt be an issue i dont think. You didnt need to use DDU between a 7970 to r9 390 they use the same drivers, i went from a 7850 to r9 390 just swapping cards lol.

Install whichever AMD driver you want on the 7970, if you want on the amd site use the one that says r9 200/300. Then restart it so it finishes the install then shut down and swap cards. Windows should automatically install a crap driver anyways so if you got nothing its either a cable/adapter issue or DOA card.

Is there some reason to think Vega will give twice hawaii's performance?

Well, it has to keep up with the new TitanXP for one.

Usually, if you have issues after new GPU installation, new Windows installation is recommended.

I suspected as much. Thank you.
Just an update, I know it is not the hdmi cable because I use it with the other card and it works perfect. I ordered a Sapphire R9 390X, which is more expensive than the ASUS. The ASUS is on its way back to Amazon.

are these okay temps to be getting. for instance when I play last light I get 94 degrees Celsius? Or even bf4 for example. Nothing I do keeps the card cool, except under clocking it.

Haven't run 3dmark in a while.
http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/13903676

Temps are still great on this card, max 73c core, VRM1 73c, VRM2 60c, max fan of course. Too bad it doesn't clock very well.

I'll have to give it another run with the CPU at 4.8-5ghz.

Hello, FYI

I got a Gigabyte R9 390 8gb G1, change the crappy amd loud default cooler for a ARTIC Accelero Hybrid III-140 and the temps are 31Cº Idle and 52Cº at gaming, away better then 92Cº sometimes biggrin.gif

Ok. I am not sure what I am doing wrong here.I have my MSI R7970 Lightning installed right now and it is working perfectly as I am typing right now. I returned the ASUS R9 390 as defective. I just received my Sapphire R9 390X. I installed it in place of the R7970 and I am having the same issues. The fans come on, but the monitor will not. It shows no input. I even grabbed my little 15" DVI monitor and plugged it in. I bought a new power supply a couple of days ago thinking that it could be the issue. I now have the EVGA Supernova 1300 G2. I know it has plenty of power now. What is going on here? Could it be a motherboard issue? My motherboard is an MSI 990FXA-GD65. It has 2 PCI-E Express 2.0 plugs and I have 32GB of Ram. I am running Windows 7 64 for the OS. Do I need to send this card back and just forget about the upgrade?

Ok, I knew nothing about the Legacy/uefi button. There is no information about it anywhere. Now everything is working.
