The new drivers (beta is what i have) fail with freesync. Sometimes it'll get stuck flickering and i have to turn freesync off and back on again.

How do you see frame rate on the desktop?

With my summer overclock core temps barely break 70 now. Vrm temps 80-85 so those remain a decent bit above core.

Are you playing F1 in crossfire? I think the driver is primarily for the 4XX series.

The freesync thing happens to me once and its been fine since. Its kinda weird, when playing rainbox six siege sometimes ill see a tear here and there, but playing rocket league or rttr or car mechanic and what not il see NONE. i even tested it on Unity and below 40 it tears and above NADA.

that 120mm fan is what does it. I don't have that, especially as I don't think it's really necessary under current temperature values i get.

What sort of core temps you getting? Never peak 65 here. Loop has 2x240mm radiators tho.

VRM's are rated at around 125c so i think 85 is plenty acceptable under heavy stress conditions. Of which regular gaming would never get it to so i'm not too concerned.

My core in 31°C ambient has never reached 50°C, only did when i had my pump speed super slow haha, i have a 240 and a 360 though so helps quite a bit. VRMs are rated quite high but the higher the temp the less stability we end up with.

I tested it this morning playing rainbow six which pings everything and VRM1 was 61°C and VRM2 was 65°C max temps. This is also with my stupid high ambient and no ac. When my ambien is 21°C we can take 10°C off the VRM temps and my core usually stays around 41°C.

Definitely no crossfire, though I am running a second monitor on my igpu. I think I've seen the flickering even when the second monitor is disconnected.

I got tired of either waiting or disappointment (thermally) regarding the RX 480. I picked up a new XFX 390 for $240. It's quiet, cool in the mid-upper 60's. Overclocked to 1100+ mhz should match or come close to matching the 480.

Doesn't the stock 390 beat the stock 480? But, you know, much worse thermally.

I new the 390X did, I assumed the 390 non-x was behind. The temps on these 480's are pretty bad IMO. Not impressed considering the TDP improvement. I was expecting much better thermals to be honest. Compared the this XFX 390 hits around 65c and it's not obnoxious while doing it.

Isn't the 390 of a different...er...."Teir" then the 480?

So a fairer comparison would be 490 vs 390.
