Graphics score is right there with the 970s I had. Good run.

So a fairer comparison would be 490 vs 390.

They perform the same, so it's the same tier for me lol

No, the 390 is the same tier as the 480. Might be pretty comparable overall.

The 970 and 1060 and 390x and 980 are probably in the same tier, though it might depend on how big you want to make the tiers. Make them small enough and you have to pick an arbitrary cutoff somewhere.

I think it's 970<480<390<1060<390x<980. Hard to be sure though since there's always new drivers with new benchmarks with different results.

Normally a previous generation top card is equivalent to the next gen one notch down performance wise (unless it's rebrand).

I.e., 4870 ~ 5770; 5870 ~ 6870 (AMD changed branding adding another tier); 6970 ~ 7870; .... and so on ... so following the same logic a 390 ~ 480 performance wise. But all the rebrands confuse things up ofc, like 290 being the same card 390 and so on.

From what ive seen so far its mix and match, even the r9 390 performs better then the rx 480 in some games. Although this could be due to driver immaturity. Seems like games high in ngreedia tessellation perform better on the rx 480 which leads me to believe AMD has worked on that. Otherwise its pretty much a side grade, unless you water cool and are worried about power consumption lol.

no way would a 1060 beat a 390. sure it might get close, but there is still a reasonably large gap between the 390 and the rx480
post #10128 of 11900
This is how it is:
R9 290 < GTX 970 < 290X = R9 390 < RX 480 < 1060 < 390X < 980

The difference between the 290 and the 980 isnt big. In a sense all are kinda close to one another and it also depends on driver maturity (why I put 480 over 390) and games tested as well as resolutions.

I now have the temps of these monsters under control, the highest temps with stock clocks and -25mv undervolt are now in the mid 70's. The total system draw with 12 fans, 3 SSD's, a pump, 16gb ram and the cards is around 600w when running games at 3200x1800 with Vsync on, most games not named Witcher 3 and Crysys 3 are around 500w

I have to admit that I was not expecting much from this crossfire setup as most reviews harped on the insane powerdraw and heat from these things. I wish I would have got them sooner.
