Temps actually seemed to improve, peak 75C on Witcher3 @1140. Think it's ambient temps; been getting colder at night. 1150 is going to be pushing it with this card but I am determined to try. Also might be able to lower GPU temps further. Case has alot of fans (Noctua) but they are setup in the bios linked to CPU/mobo and since those parts never get very hot they are probably not pushing enough air while the GPU is heating, so that's next on the agenda.

By any chance, do you have a water cooler for your CPU? Also, I think in Canada, I'll have to remove the OC during the summer. It gets really hot in my room. During most of the year through, my room stays at 19C-22C. I think that's good.

Anyway what was your fan curve with those temps?

And P.S. Since the XFX 390X and the MSI 390X are the same chip, they should perform the same at the same speeds right?

I gave CCC a try at your settings and got instant artifacts in Firestrike. It doesn't seem like there is any voltage control in CCC and I'm running +75mV in Afterburner to get 1125/1700 and 100mV 1140/1700. That may be the reason temps are different, it might be mine just doesn't clock as well. I can get to 1100 without adding voltage. Another reason could be ambient temp since I've had my AC off the past day, but adding that core voltage definitely brings my temps up. It doesn't go past 77-78C, and temps go down depending on what I'm doing in the game. Fan speed is still loud at 65 and I'm not too concerned about it, even at 75. I do run a custom curve in Afterburner so I can always mess with that.

I was trying to get to 1150 and I might still try but probably will need to +Aux voltage and I'd like to keep temps under 80. I'm going to mess with my voltage some more if I can bring it down a bit it might help.

OH and one thing I noticed is is we are using different drivers! Maybe it's because I am using the beta driver? Also your physics score is very high! Must be the skylake chip? specool.gif I haven't OCed my 4790k at all.

UPDATE: been messing with the 1125/1700 profile and got the core voltage down to +63, temps are better now low 70s. I'm still curious to try the 15.7.1 driver and see if there's any difference.

Yeah, I got the 6700K for my new rig but having it running at 4.5Ghz stable biggrin.gif , the temps on it have barely jumped as well. Skylake seems to OC pretty well! Although there really is not much of a performance gain between my 6700K & your 4790K so I'm sure you could easily see the same out of yours if you wanted too thumb.gif I have heard CCC actually does not up the voltages & TBH it really doesn't seem too. I think it just allows the GPU to use a tiny little bit of extra juice when it is above stock speeds. I do have my card set just below where I start getting artifacts so ours probably ain't too far apart with OCing. You are right too, I didn't think about it earlier but the true extra voltage from using AB definitely would add a little heat to the mix. Glad to hear you dialed it in a little better & found lower temps too. As far the drivers go, I was using the beta as well for awhile & didn't see a huge difference with bench scores. The official driver does get me slightly higher scores on FS but it's the same on average in Heaven & Valley between the 2. I mainly rolled back to have valid FS scores when I started OCing my card.

I have the Hyper Evo 212 with 2 fans and my CPU runs rather cool. During the summer the AC is on most of the time, just recently stopped using it.

Fan curve is 35% to 50C, then 80/80, 100/90.

Not really sure about the last part, I imagine so. The MSI can probably clock higher more easily though, but it also comes down to silicon lottery. My benchmarks are good and it runs games like a champ. I'm still not sure how big of a difference the gain is adding those last MHz in real world FPS but it sure is fun to try biggrin.gif

Those i7's chips are quite impressive. Clocked mine up to 4.6 awhile back just messing around and it was no sweat, but never saw the need so been running it stock.

I did try out the 15.7.1 driver and didn't really notice any difference. Went back to the beta just for the heck of it smile.gif

Does anyone else have and major problems with there 390? I can hardly play gtav ever without the game crashing and have a video error and dirt rally is choppy as all hell. This card is driving me insane. I'm almost considering getting rid of it. $400 anchor....

If it was fine before changing to the 390 get it replaced. It's faulty. I've had absolutely no issues whatsoever in any games.

I just purchased an XFX DD R9 390x. A big improvement on my R9 270 :-) I do get a slight buzzing almost clicking sound when the card is under load. Is this a coil or something. I hope it isn't a sign of a major problem.

@ Derek - I have no problems with games atm. TBH I have heard of problems with booting. Any new card, even a refresh, runs the risk of running into problems after release. It may be a driver issue or something.

i've started using msi afterburner with the power play disabled so its always on its high clocks. i just have a thing against dynamic clocking. this won't hurt anything right? temps are perfect since there is no load most of the time.

Hey guys, I might be getting one of this red 390X cards, Tonight I found a sweat deal for a 4790K with a 390X relatively cheap with trade-in some old parts I had.

The problem is currently I have a Corsair CX600M PSU which was bought back in December, it has been used to power up a FX8350 with a reference AMD 7950 without problems, then right now is working with an i5 4440 and a G1 Gaming GTX 970, I've tested it with a multimeter and it delivers a little more power than what is in the specs which actually was unexpected from what I've heard about Corsair CX series, the problem I have is do you guys think I would be able to run the 4790K and the 390X without problems with the CX600M or would I need to buy a beefier PSU? I have no plans to OC for now..

Another of my worries is the card is an Asus DirectCu2... which from what I've found so far they just reused the old cooler from the 290X so I would love to hear experiences from owners.

from what I hear I would avoid any Asus AMD cards for now.......they've got rather ****ty coolers compared to other board partners.

The CX600M would be fine for an i7 and a 390X.
