My card refuses to even really operate at anythign above 1200 or 1750 not even a single mhz

As far as physics score i've read it is more CPU intensive as far as intels getting the superior single core speed and more IPC, ie: higher score then AMD cpus

my xfx does 1700 with ease, the core clock is another story. i can get 1140 but it gets tough after that. i'm gonna work on getting a stable 1150/1700 (or thereabouts) for fun.

My 390 can push 1145/1700 on +75mV.

I said -100mv, which is undervolting biggrin.gif

I also run FS and noticed that i have to increase voltage to -70mv to run without artifacts. So its 1080/1500 at -70mv/+50PL, max temp 66C with 24C ambient! (Idles at 33C with fan at 30%)

Edit: You can undervolt aux and i can test it, but first tell me what is that for! wink.gif

Well afaik the AUX voltage is PCIe slot voltage (at least that's the conclusion we came to in the 290/x owners club) and the only Hawaii based card with memory voltage unlocked is the R9 290x Lightning.

When you guys overclock do you leave it there all the time or do you only apply it when needed? When I overclock to 1160/1650 I get about a 4 to 5 fps increase with +100mv. I don't think I'd want to be pushing those settings daily.

And so far I haven't really needed the extra 5 fps. I switched to high settings on the witcher 3 so I could get a consistent 60+ fps. If I ran it on ultra then the extra 5 fps would come in handy.

Here are my benchmark scores on stock r9 390x vs overclocked.

Wonder if the aux voltage now represents the memory instead, but the lack of software updating on the third parties doesn't reflect it? Sounds crazy, but there is no doubt about it, that my memory was stick at1600mhz without some aux voltage. I dunno? Wish there was some more information....

No one upgrade to 15.9 drivers. They have a memory leak bug and cause crashing.
Hey there guys, this is my first message and I'm here because even after some reading and research I still cannot decide what to do. I must admit I am kinda paranoid and that negatively affects my decision-making . So i wanted you guys advice. Btw this thread is really nice but it's also gigantic tongue.gif

The question would be: MSI R9 390 or Sapphire R9 390. Here are the facts I am taking into account:

I am not a huge performance freak but I want my R9 to be a long term vga, and therefore 5-10% performance difference could be a big deal. I should remember that Sapphire 390 has 1010 mhz base clock and is expected to overclock limit around 1125 mhz, and the MSI has base clock 1060 mhz and is expected to overclock limit around 1200 mhz.

However, I really don't like noisy/loud vgas, and I've heard some great comments about Sapphire 390 temperatures and noise, and some mixed comments about MSI 390 temps and noise, some people also reported to have weird high temperatures even on idle with the MSI one. I believe both cards do not have problems with coil whine, is this correct?

Another thing to be considered: I am not from the US, and the MSI 390 is 30 dollars more expensive than the Sapphire one. that would be around a 8% price difference.

So, what you guys think I should go for? thanks in advance to people willing to help a fool like me
