This card is an absolute beast. Beat my best OC with ease. Temps are impressive as well. I don't want to post numbers yet since I just got it up and running, but it already beats my old card hands down. And the best part....no whine! thumbsupsmiley.png

Probably won't get too much testing done tonight but it looks like I have to put my XFX on the auction block for a bit of a loss.

Yes, the msi is a great card, btw...

I'll get new members added tomorrow...

I've been so busy at work, not to mention my main rig is still down with dead CPU

Bought myself a new PC and went with a 390x. Can't wait to get all the parts and build that baby next week!

Going from a 2500k and a HD7950 to a 6600k and a 390x on a 144hz monitor (old one is 60hz) should be pretty sweet! biggrin.gif

Ok a few numbers for the MSI smile.gif

1150/1650 +19mV

Witcher 3 temps (max) w/custom fan curve:
core, 66C
vrm1, 61C
vrm2, 51C
fan, ~55%

Card is very quiet, can't wait to push the OC further and see what she can do biggrin.gif

Looks like I'm getting an MSI 390X. Mind testing some DX11 games? A lot of people are reporting crashes on the 300 series cards. In fact, can anyone with games like Witcher 3, or any new game try it out with their card?

Mind posting a screenshot of the fan curve?

I run an electron microscope and x ray diffraction research center so I deal with number crunching and high end imaging.

My gaming rig is self built and composes of the following:

5820 K OC at 4.3 GHz multiplier changed only
MSI Krait Mobo
Hyper X 16 gig @ 2667 stock.
EVGA 1 KW G2
XFX 390X
Kraken X-61
1920 X 1080 monitor HP
NZXT H440 white case

The question I have is OCing is fun but my rig laughs at any game you throw at it at stock settings. When I benchmark the OC is about 5 FPS faster but since I am maxed out on eye candy I see no performance reason to do it. Arguably at higher res there could be a slight difference in playabiilty. The issue of screen tearing is more critical to me so I will buy a free sync monitor around Dec when more affordable choices hit the market.

The question I have is why does it matter what program is used I have read from many posters the Furmark is bad or potentially damaging.

It should not matter how the GPU is loaded down 100% is 100% and should not be dependent on the program.

For example GPU Z rendering 100% load

Furmark 100%

Heaven 100%

Professional animators rendering 100%

Any valid scientific proof here or just personal experience? I believe over-volting and heat are the killers here.

I don't believe you really need a freesync monitor to avoid screen tearing. I was in the market for a new monitor just a month or 2 ago and was looking into 1080 1440 and 4k monitors. I ended up going with a 1080p 144hz monitor with no freesync becsuse I read that as long as you can keep with fps up high like 90+ then screen tearing will be minimal to non existent. So i bought an asus 144hz and i have not seen any screen tearing at all and believe me I am looking for it. I used to play on a 42" TV and screen tearing was really really bad in all games. This monitor is awesome, I have to say I am so glad I didn't fork out the extra money for freesync. I honestly do not believe it's needed, just a decent 144hz panel and keep those fps high and you'll be free of screen tear, I'm actually playing a really moded skyrim right now and my fps is in between 40-100 and i still don't get screen tearing or motion blur even on those low fps dips (on fields) Just my recommendation and a much cheaper option.

That's... a superb overclock. Keep pushing it. That should hit 1200mhz core or higher!

And today i learned after some messing around that my 390x doesn't have coil whine at all........it's actually the fans, once they hit max or near max rpm they make a vibration sound that sounds alot like coil whine.

easiest way to test it is to just raise and lower the fan speed on the desktop and see if you can hear it......it's faint but can be noticeable, I'm going to see if i can track down a Kraken + G10 bracket at some point and replace the cooler on it since the DD 390x has a beefy vrm heatsink smile.gif

I can't see why not tbh, all depends on how long the screws are for the Kraken i suppose.

This is just an idea though, I'm not going out of my way to make it happen smile.gif
