You can do way more bios mods to 290(x) and 390(x) than the nvidia counterparts.

Yeah, I'm seeing that. A LOT more moving parts in there...it's MUCH more complicated. On Maxwell, you up the voltage, adjust the TDP and power limits, increase the 6 / 8 / and PCIe slot power draw, smooth out the voltage / clock table and done...

hey guys, gf offered to buy me a 390 today, what's the best brand to go with? Leaning towards the msi due to the cooling?

my options are, msi, gigabyte, xfx, asus. the sapphire nitro is sold out.

Clubs it over the head like a baby seal, it does..... That 970 score is one of the highest, too....I think I was 3rd in overall score for all 1 x 970s. I was also #1 in 2 x 970 in FS, FS Extreme and FS Ultra. Those cards were VERY good.

Just so most people dont get the wrong idea most FS score with custom BIOS are really only for benchmarks and not actual games. You score that high 290X but that is not 24/7 OC or anywhere close most people would get. People would be luck to score 14K 24/7 clocks with no custom bios.

I bought the ASUS R9 390 Strix DC3 since there was no MSI in stock on Amazon, but after checking newegg its cheaper plus it was in stock but i already ordered the card doh.gif

I've heard some mixed reviews on this particular card, mostly performance and heat issues, been contemplating to return it since it could cause a problem in the long run, and just get the MSI version, idk if i should? thanks all

snip

I got the exact same card but the DC3OC version and I love it to pieces. My VRM temps aren't high at all. Max they get at is 70°C so nowhere near the temps everyone is saying.

When I play CoD BO3 for hours on end my card hits max 70°C on the core and the same for the VRM's. Maybe I got lucky?

I push for peak performance when I run Firestrike. My 970s ran every day at 1581 core and 2000 memory. That score I linked was run at 1633 core and 2175 memory....same exact bios file and same voltage.

Not sure where the 290X will be 24/7 stable yet, I haven't gotten that far.

Dont see many people here with any Hawaii card over 1.2GHz for 24/7 OC. For example I scored 29.3K with high OC not 24/7 stable and about 26K for 24/7 OC.

Ok.....as I said, they were both pushed to within an inch of their lives. Indicating, they had extremely high overclocks....as a comparison. o.O

29.3k / 26k in what, and with what? lol
