Would it handle 390 crossfire?

It would but wouldnt be very efficient. If you OC a bit with voltage might get very close to the max. Just wait for Polaris and get 2 of those haha.

2 390s only need a 1050 PSU (Minimum) (I have them running on a Corsair AX850, all fine, except I dont want to test any GPU stresstests, pretty sure the test would sap way more than 900w causing my PC to shutdown, but 390CF on a 850W works fine gaming Witcher 3, Crysis 3, Black Desert, all fine, can play hours)

whereas 2 390Xs would most definitely need 1200 at the least.

in gaming scenarios, most games only gain 5-10fps going 390 to 390x.

if you think the PSU and price of 5-10fps is worth the almost $100 extra, than sure, 390X CF is fine.

Ermmm... A 390 and a 390x should consume more or less the same amount of power. I'd guess exactly the same, as long as they use the same clocks and voltages, too. Certainly not a 100W+ difference though, no way. My 390x heavily overclocked coupled with a 4790k at 4.7GHz at 1.29V consume about 400-450W when playing BF4. So I could easily fit another 390x in there with a quality 850W PSU. Sure, heavy overclocking may be pushing it too much, but for stock voltage or even a slight overclock/overvolt, you'll probably be fine. Unless you're also running a heavily overclocked 8350 or something.

Now, is the 390x worth the premium over the 390... Depends. If you want the last bit of performance you can get and the price difference isn't too steep, then yes. I'd say anything over 70-80$ per card is too much for what you get though. The 390 is within 5-10% of the 390x anyway, so the difference between them is never the difference between playble and unplayable.

I believe tolis' insight on this is more accurate. I dont have 390 CF anymore (sold it to save up for 490 =D) but my single Stock Gigabyte G1 Gaming 1025mhz run my system(in sig) at about 432-469w playing games and furmark (seperate) so adding another 390 (didnt have wall outlet meter when I had CF) probably only bumped me up to another 200-350w)
I dont have hard results for the 390x like I do 390.

but yes, like the above are recommending it, either wait for 480 or "490" or whatever card comes after the 480.

This is true but a fully loaded psu is less efficient then one that isnt. On top of that youll get more heat as a more efficient psu wastes less wattage.

So for a cf rx480 an 850w psu would be ideal depending on the oc and cpu oc.

AAh you'll be fine with that v850, I was able to run 290x CF with an Antec 750 HCG, just don't go crazy with the overclocking the core, it should handle stock clocks alright

Better safe then sorry. And id rather be safe and efficient lol. Plus at this point its totally not worth it. The rx480 is supposed to be slightly faster then a gtx 980 so will def be faster then an r9 390/x so i might just get one for the hell of it and watercool it. Seems like amd might only optimize cf rx480 for vr games though.

"offtopic" 240 radiator + h240-x should pull 2 nitro and 5820k without problems or? oc to hell for sure^^

Ive got a 360 AND a 240 for a single 390 and the temps are AWESOME. 2 240s will give you decent temps at best especially with a 5820k.
