Remember when they said the fury/x would oc really well haha.

absolutly, 300mhz OC would be 20%+ which seems ok.
Lot of if as far but thats part of the fun before stuff is out.
The engineer was drunk with that OC comment on the fury but they do overclock decently.
and btw amd developed new OC software it seems for the 480
all good and on track thumb.gif

Yah, 1500 should be achievable. Some Hawaiis achieve 300MHz oc, so who knows - mostly reference, though.

Don't forget . . . we have gupsterg, fyzz, mus1mus, Stilt, Kizwan, and others who will tweak bioses for sure.

What's really nuts is, this little RX 470 that is performing right between a 290 and a 970. It will cost roughly $140!! Two of those in crossfire for less than $300 will give you roughly 295x2 performance, especially with some overclocks. AMD is about to dominate the mid-range market with these releases. thumb.gif

I hope so, thats why its so tempting to get a 480 especially since i only game in ultrawide, but if i get a 4k tv by end of the year or so id hate to have to buy another card. I may just wait out for Vega unless the rx480 is just out of this world.

I don't think the 480 will be out of this world by any means, but it will deliver solid 390x/980 performance at a great price and there could be the potential for some good overclocking which will take it into Fury X territory. I think the important thing is that the nightmares associated with running 2) hawaii cards in crossfire (too much power and too much heat) won't be an issue with these. You can have two cards for a great price, get enthusiast level performance, and not have temps in the 90's while burning up 700w of power. Instead you"ll be looking at roughly 300w of power with a heavy overclock on two cards, with temps probably in the 70's on top card, and 60's on the bottom.

You can tell that AMD is definitely trying to sell crossfire with this release based on their comparison of the 1080 to a pair of 480's in AoS. Two reasons for that; they need to sell as many as possible since their margins are going to be so low, and also they know they have nothing that can compete with the 1080 in single form until Vega, so to be relevant they are showcasing the power of two cards together. Nothing wrong with that tactic in my opinion but there are still trolls all over the net asking why the 480 doesn't compete with the 1070, which is ridiculous, as it was never meant to compete with it to begin with. I mean seriously, GTX 980 performance, with some good OC potential, and it's $200-230..... even in 2016 that type of performance is still very good and these cards (470 and 480) will put PC gaming at the finger tips of many more young people.

I dont think so much crossfire as VR. One card per eye would be amazing and it seems like more VR games will be developed with 2 card in mind. The issue is most games (at least i think anyways) wont get good crossfire support even if 2 rx480s will be powerful.

Again this is just my opinion but they havent had good crossfire in probably a decade so i dont see it changing now since it really is such a small marker. Unless everyone ends up buying 2 rx480s instead of one, devs and AMD just wont put that much effort into crossfire, not as much as they will into VR (which i think wont pick up for a while anyways)

Maybe the A10 has some new features that can help it cope with a card like the 390. I paired my Phenom II Quad with my 290 and it really struggled. Had to unlock it to six core just to cope. Not sure if the Physics score (cpu) is a good indication of cpu preformance in games but my Phenom gets 6K at 4GHz in the same bench.

I've not good skills at navigating through websites. Trying to join R9 390 & X overclocking club. Sort of lost at doing this.

I ran crossfire for a bit and honestly thought it was great. The performance boost I got in Crysis 3, BF4, and SoM at the time was awesome. GTA V showed no improvement though, but I believe that has since been fixed (I may be wrong).
The worst issues I had were with Far Cry 4 (possibly fixed now) and Skyrim, with Skyrim being absolutely unplayable with CF turned on, but got hundreds of frames per second with only one card anyways so no big deal...
