AMD is even giving overclocking software WITH VOLTAGE CONTROL OUT THE GATE!!!!!
And 1500mhz?? Yes, we'll take it

These guys are learning as they go thumb.gif

I mean cant we do that with afterburner anyways? I dont see the big deal but thats just me, you still cant monitor in game with Crimson lol.

Well yes, but remember that Fury took months to get voltage control, and also keep in mind that NO GPU manufacturer has ever offered direct driver level voltage control to their customers. This is an industry first!

The card overclocked in the 1400-1500mhz range will be Fury X performance. That's pretty damn impressive for less than half the cost!

I highly doubt it's going to be Fury X real world performance. I'd expect more. A smaller, cooler and simpler chip shouldn't have the trouble the Fury line had when overclocking. I'm expecting real world results to show it as being faster than the Fury X and right into 980ti territory, while scraping by during benchmarks. I guess we'll see.

True. Guess im so used to afterburner i dont even oc or think about OCing with crimson/catalyst. Just makes it easier to oc and monitor all in one you know. If i do get a 480 id still oc with afterburner lol.

We shall see..... it's about 390x level out of the box, but the question will be, how much will the overclocking help..... I mean, if we will seriously see 200mhz+ overclocks on core, and if the memory will get into the 9GHz range like the 1070 does, then this card will certainly surpass a Fury level of performance.

I saw that but then again not sure how accurate those are. My r9 390 on stock clocks pulls 12,600 and closer to 13,500 with a simple 60mhz overclock. There numbers for the 390x seem low to begin with. Pretty sure they score more then 300points over a 390.

Idc about synthetic benchmarks im waiting for UNBIASED reviews, aka probably only techpowerup lol.

That's exactly what I meant. We can't go by Firestrike results. It's not terribly biased or anything, but it does favor big chips with tons of bandwidth. Seriously, just look at the 390x. How much of a real-world performance benefit is there going from 1625MHz memory to 1750MHz?None? 1-2%? Firestrike gains are in the 3 digits range. Also, how far behind a Fury is a 390x in games? That's why I believe that it may not bench that well, but in games it should deliver. Especially if it's not hitting any memory bottlenecks and the memory does clock well. I guess we shall see in a couple of weeks. Interesting times ahead. smile.gif

What am I missing here?

i doubt its the 4gb because i just ran it on my 290 and scored 7.6. maybe its the bandwidth and not the amount of vram limiting the card.

It's definitely going to be interesting. AMD may have just knocked this one out of the park. I'm all but convinced I will be buying two of these cards over a single 1070 at this point.

My concern though, is TDP. These reference samples will all have one power port, and I'm sure we will see special AIB's with two later, but if we have seen anything from the 1070/1080 so far, adding additional connectors doesn't matter because the firmware on their cards are heavily limiting the clock speeds. Hopefully AMD didn't do that with these because as we have seen from the Nano, these single connector/low TDP cards suffer greatly with power limitations.

One thing to note though, is that reviewers have said the clock speeds are pretty much staying pegged and the power draw is around 100W. That means increasing power limiter to 50% and adding some voltage may not be an issue as we will be able to push into the 150w territory and still be within both the cards designed power limit, and within the physical power available to the board itself.

I also wonder about pricing.... this $199 thing is for a vanilla 4GB model, which is fine, and then the speculation was that the 8GB would be $30-50 more. But now I am seeing that the XFX RX480 8GB with slight OC is going to be $300.....
At $300, if it doesn't show a good deal better than the 390 series in games (OC or not) then I think they stand to sell very few of those. I certainly won't pay $300 for one unless it truly does offer than Fury X level of performance.
