[Official] AMD R9 390/390X Owners Club - Page 979

Guys i finally got 390 gaming 8gb from msi rma which in their mind replaced my 290x lightning.... Tho so far its not a bad card at all and the 8gb does help in games that is vram hungry like ark which made a big difference in that game.

Still miss my lightning cause ...well ... its a lightning lol..

So far i got 1180 core and 1700mem +69 out of it. didn't try any higher yet cause i need to work on my case cooling first cause it is getting toasty at 77-78 after a few hours of gaming...

Tho i been wanting to ask this question. In hwinfo there is a monitor that monitors gpu memory errors... i was wondering is that accurate? cause the higher i overclock the memory it goes higher and higher like right now its at current 222,109 errors and avg is 51k which keeps going higher and higher even in 2d.. Im pretty sure if that's true i would be having all kind of issues in games or even in bench's? cause im not seeing any problems at all. heck even going as small as 50mhz on the memory errors will show on it..

My cousin wanted to know this too cause his sapphire 7950 is also seeing about 6 to 10 errors even at stock but seeing no issues. none of my other cards even the lightning when i had it had that monitor.

doing multiple valley benchmarks shows no issues on the 390 even tho the errors keeps going higher and higher... looking gpu memory errors for hwin on google comes up with nothing much about it.

There's two kind of errors; correctable & uncorrectable errors. The EDC error (reported in HWiNFO) doesn't differentiate between the two. The uncorrectables ones that will produce artifacts. All I know it's pretty accurate based on the info gathered from people that have NDA agreement with AMD.

Your screenshot show core is in 2D but memory is not which is likely the reason why the error counter still running but it should stop reading when there's nothing running that use VRAM. If it doesn't cause any issue at all in gaming, then the errors are handled properly & you should not need to worry about it.

I see so pretty much as long no artifacts shows in games or benchmark everything is fine and can be ignored? Can i still go higher on the overclock as long as i don't see any artifacts in games etc? it just worrys me when the errors keeps going higher when i overclock the mem more.. The weird thing is even very little overclock on the mem will report some errors..

If it doesn't cause visual artifacts or crash, then is should be fine. Forgot to mention that you should not get any error at stock because that likely bad card/memory/bios. The reading is a counter meaning the number will keep increasing when error occurs, it doesn't reset.

At what frequency you're starting to get EDC error reading? For 290/290X, the limit start around 1500MHz & higher when you'll likely to get EDC error. For 390/390, seems like around 1600MHz & higher. On Hawaii/Grenada, the memory controller is what limit the card memory overclockability not the memory itself .

at stock i get none, butI get some errors around 1550 and very very slowly climbs. at 1600+ it starts to climb fast and in the screenshot i posted i had the memory around 1700 which had no artifacts or crashing.

So pretty much every card gets these errors when overclocking the memory? i see people in this forum overclocking to 1750 1800 do they get alot?

Im pretty much a newb at this error counter because my amd 5x series didn't have it or my 570gtx or even my 290x lightning when i had it which i find weird..

Trying to find the sweet spot for this card and when i see those errors climbing it scares me lol..

I get some errors on one card at 1550. But yeah, modded rom and timings.

Its not he doesnt know. They are pretty much even or close to in performance. The rx480 even tessells better which would be worth the upgrade alone. Considering theres an rx 490 coming out before the end of the year its what im waiting for.

Would have juimped on the 480 its around 270€ here but no need if a 490 is coming.

You guys may be talking about an OC'ed 390 vs 480 with premature OC results.

Review samples are not gonna be allowed the same OC treatment we are enjoying now with Hawaii.

And opps, a new devil is coming. Dual RX 480s? Sweet.

so rx480 is a little slower then R9 390... and has no overclocking (from tech of tomorrows review sample anyway)

I want to see other reviews first before buying
