Drivers are different. 15.10 vs 16.7.2
That 290X (reference VTX3D with a new Board) needs to clock 100MHz more over the older reference cards to equalize performance. Not sure why. Board seems pre-Grenada (with printed 8GB/4GB markers).

Kinda glad i stuck to my 390 and didnt buy an rx 480, although the water cooler for it looks awesome, i bet EK wont make em for AIBs though, they barely made it for the 290/390. Ill stick with it for now.

480 is good for starters. Not worth it really for Hawaii and Grenada adopters. Unless you really mind power consumption.

The Nitro runs pretty cool! But I won't stick woth this card. It clocks very low for my liking. biggrin.gif

My Nitro at an ambient of 21°C runs about 40°C or so. I have no ac here so now im stuck to running mid 40s. Still beats the 74°C i was stuck with on air so idc. i only have 360/240mm rads so its plenty. The rx480 would prob run maybe a couple degrees cooler. My water delta is 5-7°C over case ambient so not a worry.

I meant the stock cooler. biggrin.gif

12C ambient, default fan settings, +250 VDDC(1.38V) , 1200/1625, short 3DMark11 runs, max temp - 55C, VRM1 - 61C.

For comparison, 980TI HOF levels of cooling at 1500/2200 1.212 biggrin.gif

Pretty good for me. Coming from 290Xs that have temps of 55C max at +381mV no Voltage Limit on water; 3-way XFire.

flash them with same bios and 290X will just thrash 390 biggrin.gif bad idea to downgrade from 1500mhz 290X to 1225mhz 390

Oh dear I'm now running a GTX 1080. But my 1250/1750 MSI R9 390X isn't collecting dust either! rolleyes.gif A friend is running it in his chassis now, he's running my MSI Afterburner presets too. If I'm ever installing that card to my PC again (it's still mine) I will watercool it, flash the bios and see what's possible.

Not soo bad when you consider using a 1600p monitor. wink.gif

I really don't think the 290X will TBH granted the same clocks.

This is simply based off my experience though. Pushing the cards further than most people here of course. thumb.gif

lol. My co-workers call my spot, "the igloo"! biggrin.gif

I can stand 12C even when I am living in tropical country. thumb.gif

Canucks will still feel warm with this ambient though.

Im in southern France with no AC, ambient inside is 27-28°C. Case will get up to 31°C inside while gaming. Water temp around 36-37°C for very demanding games. In the winter, no heat so the inside gets nice and cool and water temp is prob like 25-26°C at load, at first start up its like 18°C lol.

I think i can do 16°C ambient any lower and my bad knees from my accident start to suffer. I lived 8years in New England so tons of cold tons of snow. I cycle here in January in shorts while everyone here is wearing fur coats.

My delta is very low even with just 2 360s as my fans are, well, 4K rpms 38mms. biggrin.gif

I think with 3 cards on full throttle and a 5930K, I am not seeing 10C water on top of the ambient air. Pretty handy when benching. biggrin.gif

I still have 2 480 rads yet to be used as I am still to finish my other bencher. It can house 2 - 480s and 2 - 360s.

Really eager to test those HWLabs GTXs
