No Project Cars for me unfortunately. Controlling games 32x Tess or lower helps in TWIMTBP games, though.

I don't think the 4gb of vram should be any more of a turn-off than the downsides of crossfire. All that happens when you run out of vram is the occasional microstutter when new textures have to be swapped in - should be minor compared to the mini stuttering you can get in crossfire.

Not sure 4k gaming is really a good idea compared to 1440, which can be run quite decently on a single hawaii or very well on two.

Of course, a fury x ($390 I think!) is only like 40% more powerful than a 390. So two 390s will actually outperform it.

Kinda does make me want to get a second 390/390x for my 1440@144 though. Graphics in witcher could use some improvement with a single 390 at 1440.

I had two Furies, and before that a Fury X (I like to swap around) and the experience with 390 xfire is basically the same as Fury Xfire on 60hz 4k. The 8GB VRAM does seem to help with buffering vis a vis crossfire though as what microstutter ive is short lived and nearly imperceptible.

First of all there is an intake fan at the bottom, I didn't notice it before.

Anyway I gave my case some more breathing room and it looked like the temperature was going to stabilize around 91 degrees. I didn't actually wait long enough to confirm that because it didn't seem like a desirable result.

Then I tried removing the side of my case and I got stabilization at 79 degrees. That's a good result I think but not sure if that's a good solution...seems like it will lead to problems with dust?

But anyway I think it's confirmed that my basic problem is ventilation. I will look into moving things around in my case.

For anyone who has made it this far, what would you say is a good temperature target for a XFX 390x under full load but not overclocked?

If with case open it dropped that much its a case flow issue.

Most of our cards will stay under 80°C but also really depends on location, and fan setup. Also are you using the Crimson fan curve or you made one in afterburner? Crimson keeps the fan curve very low for quietness but more heat. I had mine on my nitro peak at 60% would keep my temps under 75°C at all times.

I'm using the Crimson curve.

Do you think it's unusual to use a 390x in case with only one intake and one exhaust fan? Or is that typical?

I think I'm just going to pop the side of my case off when I play games at 100% GPU load (which is not all that common, I play a lot of old games). But I'm still a bit curious about what the underlying cause of my ventilation problem is. Because my case setup seems pretty normal.
