IMHO the card to get right now (since the bios has now been "cracked") is the MSI 6G. The Strix 980 Ti and Classy seem to be getting mixed reviews.

Thank you for your opinion.

If you're gonna buy a GPU you could get 290 cheaper. But 390 while the same card on its surface is optimized to perform better.

Personally, if you've got the money to wait it out, I would wait til Fury x2 launches and then see where it's at performancewise. 390 will be available and fury X as well. So unless there is a tugging on your pockets of epic proportions that's likely the way to go. smile.gif

This is coming for a previous AMD dual GPU card owner, sold right here on OCN (see trade history).

The only way I would consider a dual AMD card is if AMD hires a new driver Dev team. Otherwise, no thank you.

GREAT NEWS! They'll need it as that they need to make the memory access wide not fast. I don't even think with our current driver using the full bit width.

Keyword: wait

But let's just go with where you went.

Fury X single card is giving reasonable performance comparisons against nVidia's top tier cards with only minor issues being the pump whine and sometimes coil whine.

They're going to get those sorted out.

Now we should see a better Fury x2 as a result. It's essentially new architecture so I'm reasonably sure that x2 is gonna evolve to be an absolute BEAST of a card. And I really cannot wait to see the benches.

Being on a pair of 6870s, it's time for me to upgrade. But I am waiting to see what I can upgrade to as well as hoarding my money for my build mod. At this point I could get r9 390 Nitro or Fury X. I could care less about stock cooling. I'm going EK. But if x2 turns out to be what I believe it is then I will wait and get that when I can better afford it. smile.gif

But, I did suggest to wait until we know what we have in front of us. biggrin.gif

Crossfire scalability is crazy good. Especially if you've got the processor to handle it.

I'm also getting the sense that the bus isn't quite getting utilized correctly with the current drivers. I think buying anything new straight off is a glutton for punishment.

Agreed. If one cannot wait for a couple months to see what we have going on here then 390 Nitro is my advice. It's newer and better than 290. And should Fury X2 be what I think it is and owner wishes to further upgrade, he won't take a bath in resale to offset that upgrade. But me I will wait. smile.gif

It's not like anything out today is exponentially better than yesterdays cards. At least warranting the sale for their price. Got my 290 last Christmas for 250$, thanks Dad! smile.gif

Yes at 4K. 1080p/1440p is a different story for the vast majority of games, which is what the vast majority also uses.
