MSI 980 Ti Gaming 6G Card overclocks and pictures - Page 276

Is there a good guide for custom BIOS for MSI? Does increasing your power limit decrease GPU life? Obviously increasing voltage would. How do you know if the current power limit of 109% is not enough?

So after reading some comments about fan noise, I guess I'm not overreacting when I find the 6G somewhat noisy with the stock cooler, I'm running it with an Accelero IV now which is very silent but it's also pretty big and causing somewhat of an issue mounting this in my R4 case (need to remove the drive cage). Thinking about switching to another brand with a very silent stock cooler, advice? The MSI+Accelero is great but I want to switch to SLI and 2x Accelero IV is jus too much.

Still cannot understand how people (in reviews) find the 6G "silent" at load...

Bitspower do a full block http://www.highflow.nl/water-blocks/gpu-blocks/nvidia/bitspower-msi-gtx-980ti-gaming-6g-waterblock-vg-ngtx980timg-acrylic-clear.html .

nope, 6G cooler is very quiet compared to other cards, especially Giga G1, which sounds like a vacuum cleaner above 50%.

Weird. The MSI Gaming 980Ti is by far the quietest card I've owned. Even under load it's practically inaudible.

Perhaps your cooler is faulty or maybe you have an aggressive custom fan curve?

I don't use any fan curve, just stock settings. Tried using a curve which doesn't go as fast to 100% fan speed, but then temps went way too high. I have an Accelero IV installed now in the card, idle temps around 30°C, load rarely above 60°C. This is with fans which are barely audible under load. When I used the stock cooler (and I did try re-applying other paste), the temps were around 45°C idle (no fans spinning) and easily went to +80°C under load with the fans rising to 80% or more making the card pretty loud. I had an Asus GTX980 STrix before and that card was really really silent even under heavy load in same case with even less casefans installed (at the time).

Makes me wonder if there's something wrong with the cooler or (more so) the heatpipes/heatsink, because I find the difference between the stock cooler and the Accelero very very big. No problem to keep using the Accelero, weren't it for the fact that it makes the card VERY large, and then I cannot use the hdd cage in my Fractal R4 causing some weird vibrations. Also, going SLI with this setup is a no-go, which bothers me too.

The MSI stayed pretty silent until about 60% fan speed, anything above that was easily heard and annoying at +75% fan speed. Mind, I have an almost completely silent pc with very large fans blowing at a low rpm to keep noise down (noise is something incredibly important to me). Mind also, when I used the stock MSI cooler, I set the casefans to fullspeed with almost no difference in temps/noise from the card (which confirms there's a enoug airflow in my case and this loud MSI cooler is not a result of heat trapped inside). My CPU stays pretty cool too.

RMA?

My MSI Gaming runs pretty hot as well and I have to run an aggressive fan curve to keep temps in check when I'm not running AC, fan is louder than my old DCU2 but much quieter than the Gigabyte Windforce 970 I had briefly. Can't wait until I can get this under water ._.

Before I moved to this 1440p screen I thought this Gaming 6G ran cool and quiet. Boy, moving up in res changed that. Very happy with this H90/G10. Will say from now on I will at least use a closed loop cooler on my gpu. The idea of full water cooling does cross my mind. Really what holds my hand is I don't want to deal with it. Still, really happy overall with just the AIO on the CPU/GPU for now.

Because of having to break the warranty seal to install the H90 I've kept my OC very modest. Still, on the stock cooler the card couldn't hold its stock boost clock. Now, I have it set up for 1429MHz on stock voltage. It hits that and never drops. With my current fan curve the highest temp I touched was 55c in Witcher 3 max w/hairworks, 1440p, unlocked fps. I had to fight to get it to hit that temp. As soon as it did my fan switched to 55% and it dropped down to 53c quickly.

Here's my current fan curve. By the time it hits 55% fan usage my temps decrease and stabilize. It takes excessive usage such as Witcher 3 to get it to 55c.

Don't worry about the warranty seal, it's only there for idiot proofing. As long as there's no physical damage to the card, MSI will honor the warranty.

Oh yea. If something went wrong with the card I'd slap the stock cooler back on and act like I didn't know what they were talking about if it was mentioned. Maybe dishonest, but, damned things are expensive and I wouldn't consider what I do to it as abusive.

Still, if something did go wrong with it I would not hear the end of it from my ol'lady.

I'm very happy with my overall performance, temps, and fan noise as of now though and don't mind running it kind of lite on the OC.

*Beauty here is with the H90 1429 feels like a lite OC.
