Bit of a change of subject from the recent posts, however.. This card has been a worry from day 1 for me & it's only a week old.

I've been reading various posts about the BIOS, voltage, overclocking etc and believe a fair share of folks out there with the MSI 6G believe it's quite the troubled card.
I noticed having run some tests at factory OCs (1354Mhz in-game, never manually touched memory/core myself) that sometimes the GPU load can throttle right down to 50% even though it has been running at 98% throughout the entire gaming session, but core clocks do not change. Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Cross referencing that finding I decided to open up GPU-Z and run Heaven 4.0 @ 1440P with MSI Afterburner only running for a custom fan curve.

After the first bench, I looked at the sensors in GPU-Z and TDP was in the 90s throughout the entire bench. The PerfCap reasoning showed plenty of 'VRel' which is 'Reliability Voltage'

I decided to take the 'Power Limit %' to it's maximum 109% in MSI Afterburner, ran the benchmark again and this time 'VRel' never appeared once within GPU-Z.

I'm absolutely baffled as to why the card is essentially saying it's not getting enough power at it's stock factory settings..?

GPU usage will drop if for whatever reason it doesn't need 100%. The scene might be less demanding. Vsync could be capping the fps. Load screens. Any number of reasons. If it's going down to 50% and running like crap then that would be a issue. Like when Gsync messes up and the percentage is all over the place.

***Also if you're being limited by the CPU then you could drop gpu percentage since the CPU can't handle pushing out higher fps. Like in a MMO with lots of things going off on screen. If the CPU can't cope, then the GPU will drop percentage since running at 100% isn't needed.***

Yea, as long as it's compatible with it. Not sure off hand the size or performance of the Kraken cooler though.

VRel does not mean its not getting enough power. Nor does it mean anything bad. Its basically the GPU explaining why it chooses to stay at 1354.

Cool I'm gonna get the NZXT G10 and then figure out which cooler I want. Is the G10 the only adapter that works? Any other brands?

In terms of installing this...are there decent instructions?

Can someone post pics how it looks with a G10+H90? Thinking about going that way too. Also, is it necessary to install the fan on the g10?

Thank you. I have found that G-Sync has been particularly more buggy in the most recent drivers, especially the last which was locking GPU usage at 50% until you tabbed out and back in. Makes sense.

I don't believe it to be my CPU. I'm running an i7 4820k @ 4.1Ghz so should be able to cope with the Ti.

Thanks for the reply. I made a mistake in the original post. I actually meant 'Pwr' was showing in GPU-Z quite often when at 100%. Upping it to 109% made it go down quite substantially, but it still appears from time to time, along with the TDP going over 100.

Any idea why an out-of-the-box would be complaining about power, when I've literally touched nothing?

No clue how the Corsair one posted above holds up.

Its because Nvidia limits these cards to 250w. Msi allows 270-275w(109%) maximum in its bios. All OC utilities default at 100% power(250w for 980ti) Gpuz detects your holding it back from max potential and gives you a reason why its not at max potential. Its why people mod the power limit in bios as some games can even request more then 109% even at 1080p Firestrike wanted over 114%.

There are some games that are cpu limited. No CPU in existence can deal with a mmo with 50+ people on screen all shooting off special effects and hold 60 fps. It's times like that that you may be running 20 - 30 fps yet your GPU is only running 33%.

But yea, your CPU is more then enough for that GPU.

One thing too, if it were something like your PSU then your gpu clock speeds would be really low. Like 600 - 700 MHz.

Makes sense to me. Just had me worried at first there was something actually wrong with the card. Don't get me wrong, it absolutely storms through games at 1440p/4k, but it's always best to be sure. Appreciate the assistance.
