Zotac 980 Ti AMP Extreme - Page 53

Apparently the last firmware posted a page or so back is supposed to have fixed it but this isn't an official zotac one I don't think, but a custom one that managed to fix it or at least settle it down.

If you do a Google for zotac amp extreme 980 ti fan problems you'll see it. Mine did it as well and though I usually wear a headset it bothered the snot outa me cuz I knew it was doing it.

I just broke down and bought a water block for mine. Problem solved. Watching jayz2cents review of the AE 1080 certainly sounds as if it's doing the same thing but without someone specifically testing for it, IE setting a static % and putting it under load, it's hard to say. Does sound familiar though.

I'm sure I'm not the only one with this issue here. Please chime in if you've had it as well.

PS I had no temp issues at all. The card stayed nice and cool even with the fan up and down problem. Just annoying.

Quick link to one of the ocn threads on it http://www.overclock.net/t/1565278/zotac-gtx-980-ti-amp-unstable-fan-rpm

Also a few videos on YouTube showing the problem.
Ok thank you for telling me all this can you tell me is firestorm a good software because whenever I ran it in 3D or 3D+ settings it would give artifacts in witcher 3 , then I switched it back to 2d mode in firestorm which is also a little overclocked, I ran it on unigene heaven for almost few hours had to leave home for a bit, it was fine in half hour but when I came back after a few hours my computer screen was stuck and when I restarted my computer it had strange boxes on both screens, I just installed an old driver 368.22 ...will try my luck at that , is it possible the firestorm 2d, 3D and 3D+ modes would give artifacts, about to run unigene heaven on old driver and I also removed firestorm ....wish me luck , thank god I still have my old g1 gaming 980Ti,

Don't know. Never used it. Sounds like whatever overclock you have going on isn't stable though. Very likely a power limit issue. Another known issue with this specific card (see earlier on in the thread). I typically just use afterburner for my overclocking.

Now that doesn't look good at all. Any chance at an rma? Maybe try lowering the clocks a bit and see what that does. If it clears it up then I'd say you have a bad card unable to hit advertised clocks and return it. If it continues to do it possible a driver issue? Though I'd be tempted to try different firmwares, if you have the ability to return it that's what you should do. If not maybe look at different firmwares.

I'd probably start down clocking your vram.

Not sure as I've never gotten any. Might check techpowerup. Think they have firmwares there. Also look at this thread. The original post has some as well as a page or 2 back there should be the one that takes care of the fan problem.

yes the issue has been found its the fan curve because i ran unigene heaven with a fan curve of 70% on 70C for six hours while at default the max curve is 58% , i also gave my stock bios to MR. dark the the expert bios tweaker of maxwell cards in OCN community, he made the limit to 420W at stock TDP slider , he is the one who told me that the artifacts are maybe because of fan curve .....but rest all settings such as clocks and voltage were stock

Don't know why a fan curve would cause artifacts. Unless it was set too low and the card was getting too hot in which case it'd just thermal throttle.

well after i ran unigene heaven for 5 hours, on configured bios with a higher powerlimit and a custom fan settings on MSI AB ... i ran unigene heaven again for a little less than two hours this time on stock factory bios but with MSI AB custom fan curve and i had no issues. the heat problem was never with gpu core as it was always below 70C the problem was with the VRAM which sort heated up i guess and caused artifacts . i set the fan curve in between 65% to 70% fan speed when the temps are in between 60C to 70C .. as tomorrow my 4k screen is coming i will let you know how gaming works.

I didn't even consider the vrms. I would be tempted to see if you went back to a more stock fan curve to see if you still got artifacts. I'm thinking the power limit fix probably has more to do with fixing your issues.
