Zotac 980 Ti AMP Extreme - Page 59

Thanks for the updated BIOS Cyclops. I've been having problems getting even 1476Mhz core on my GTX 980 TI Amp Xtreme.

Does anyone think replacing the fan assembly on a GTX 980Ti Amp Extreme w/discrete high-powered, high static pressure fans w/output shrouds/spacers would make any diff. in temps? I have some high powered 92mm x 38mm and 92mm x 32mm fans I was using on an old Accelero II+ that I could re-purpose to this 980Ti.

Are you having temp problems?

I've read you're supposed to keep the temps below 65° C. I'm seeing 68° C.

Jyve, here's the GPUz stats from my latest Metro Last Light benchmark crash:
core mem vcore
1478.4(+36MHz) 1907MHz(+205MHz) +87mv(1.230V)

result: benchmark crashed (core 100%/mem 52%), 68 degrees peak, 81.8% TDP, PerfCap VRef, Pwr

I didn't really see any throttling, just a CTD.

I'm using Precision X to o'clock.

Sounds like that's just not a stable clock. Those temps aren't high enough to crash you. Throttle a bit maybe, but not ctd. Did you slide the power limit slider all the way? This is on a custom bios correct?

I'd be interested to see the outcome at stock clocks. Temps? Any crashes?

Also maybe just try overclocking the core and leaving the memory alone for the time being.

Again 68 might be enough to throttle (ridiculous for sure) but not enough to crash it.

Jyve,

Shortly before the Metro Last Light benchmark CTD'd I saw the following in GPUz under the
"PerfCap Reason" heading: VRef, Pwr.

Honestly don't know what that means. Maybe someone else here does or maybe check out the 980ti thread.

Placed an order with ppcs this weekend for some bitspower water blocks. ppcs said they had them in stock and billed me for them but them reneged and said they only had one mad.gif so now the whole order waits for them to order one block.

Pwr = Power. Indicating perf is limited by total power limit. VRef should stand for reference voltage but I dont remember seeing that as a perfcap reason. VRel would make a lot more since to me in this context. You need to check your power limit first as there is not much you can do for any of the voltage caps. For the CTD's I would recommend stepping back to the basics check stock clocks with Valley / Heaven and walk your way up to the CTD with only core and once you have a stable core go after the mem. A CTD under load like this may point to psu so check your rails as well.

I've figured out a lot by reading over the humongous Maxwell BIOS editing thread and other sites. I figured out how to avoid the Pwr PerfCap issue and the VRel, but what I need to find out is how to evade/bypass/eliminate the VRel PerfCap because it's limiting my GPU core voltage to less than 1250mV.

It looks like temps have been irrelevant to my overclocking efforts because 75° C doesn't seem to be causing any throttling at all.

Getting the max overclock out of a modern GPU isn't easy and ripping my system apart three times because I bricked the VBIOS flash wasn't fun either.

For some weird reason, I can't just flash the VBIOS once, I always have to flash it twice w/the same .rom file. Is this normal?

Thanks for all the help.

I have that problem sometimes. Seems to be more of an issue with nvflash

@jarble glad to see another AE owner getting it under water. I always thought how ppc did it was a little shady. You're basically purchasing it for them so they can resell it back to you. They bill you before they even have it in stock.

I was willing to kick down the extra few bucks and got mine through Amazon prime. 2 day shipping too.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01EIS7C3W/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Love the block though. It's awesome. I got 3 5mm leds for it as well. System is loaded with molex connectors. I hate that part. There any molex hubs around anymore?
