At first it was "well not all of them have it and its mild", then its "it will be fixed for retail versions", now its "well coil whine isnt that bad and you'd shouldn't mind it", and now its "what about the 970?"

not everybody is like that - some give an answer without being bias - mind you could start that here with your comment biggrin.gif

"But but but"

Not really a concern for me personally, but it will be for MANY users especially ones looking to run multiple cards. I'll be putting them on EK blocks if the time comes. Hopefully they'll get it resolved if it turns out to be wide spread, as many have said we really need AMD to compete with NVIDIA, and they are on more than one or two levels, but there is always a catch.

I don't actually. I want AMD to do poorly so they can be bought out by Samsung/Qualcomm/whoever and actually really be able to compete. It's obvious that AMD in it's current state can never challenge Intel/NVIDIA so why even exist at all. Also AMD fans are among the most toxic breed of fans out there today. They are basically the equivalent of TNA fans (for those who watch wrestling) in the tech world.

That is literally preposterous. If Samsung bought out AMD they would bleed all AMDs resources into furthering the markets they already compete in.

For this "huge leap in technology" it doesn't seem to be "the great destroyer of walls and barriers" we hoped it would be. Or, that AMD led us to believe. Bandwidth doesn't seem to be that big of an issue for us currently as GDDR5 seems to be doing just fine being so ancient. Even Hawaii wasn't bandwidth starved with just 5 GHz memory. Maybe at 4k all of this helps, but such a small percentage of users even have a 4k monitors and as we know AMD dismissed 4k TV owners with no HDMI 2.0 (Five years developing something does that I guess..).

Maybe when you can finally overclock the card it can hopefully come close to an overclocked 980ti or even beat it considering it has 2 8 pins and a bios switch and hopefully adequate VRM cooling (Nothing the smexy EK block can't fix though thumb.gif). So long as GCN still has improvements to be made. Might take AMD a long time but they most likely will improve on performance. It's not like they have a choice given the drastic times ahead and a two-front war with giants. I just wonder if David could of handled fighting two Goliath's at the same time back in the day.

They should run some f@h and let me know the numbers it produces. Running folding@home has been known to help cards with whine issues because of the stress it invokes.

Just sucks if you dumped $650 into a card to have to RMA it within 2 weeks. Maybe certain vendors will be awesome and provide free shipping but that's not always the case. Only sometimes did EVGA do that for me, but I'm glad they did offer free shipping after that terrible z87 Classy board I had to experience. AMD might have a low amount of engineers but at least they don't have EVGA's motherboard team.

The goal posts always change on this forum. Luckily my Titan X doesn't whine at all even being on water. If it whined like my 690 did (only certain instances) it would of been RMA'd instantly.

That's why I had a laugh at a thread on reddit and lately haven't cared enough to log on here. "This isn't Overclock.net, no shills allowed". It's so true now it's painful, for both sides.

No he didn't. Watching the whole video, he never said it. He specifically said "once we get a replacement card from AMD". Please give me the time stamp where he said that it came from someone else.

Never once said that in the video (I just watched it for the 3rd time), and nothing like that is in the notes.

Not sure where I heard that, maybe that was another muppet.

Since when is eteknix a legitimate review site like hw canucks, TPU, anand, etc.? I've only heard of them recently what with kitguru not getting review samples.

Pretty much says to me most reviews are sponsored click bait; read several reviews and I never was made aware. Jayz reviews from now on I guess.

Why is this news-worthy?

Oh, because it's AMD bashing and that's the in thing right now. Silly me.

People act like no other GPU has ever had coil whine before. Even Nvidia has suffered this problem as recently as their 980s. In fact, I have two friends who both RMAd their first 980s because the coil whine was that bad. One got back a noise-free card, and the other got one that is at "acceptable" levels.

The AMD hate train has gotten completely out of hand. I'm considering getting a Fury X just to spite all the Negative Nancys now.
