I'm wondering if these new blocks fit the Sapphire 390X cards?

I currently have a pair of 290Xs with EK full blocks, need to RMA them and Sapphire is only replacing with 390X. I would really hate to lose these 290X blocks, whats so different on the Sapphire boards? Any way to mod them to make them fit? I do have access to a small milling machine. Thanks for the help.

No, these do not fit the Sapphire cards, these are exclusively for the MSI board, namely the following two models: https://www.ekwb.com/configurator/waterblock/3831109831113

Always use EK Cooling Configurator to be double sure!

So then my question becomes what makes the Sapphire board so different? Have any idea if I can make them fit with some modding?

MSI uses proprietary PCB (circuit board) design, which is too different from reference design and/or other proprietary PCB designs (including Sapphire). This is why this water block doesn't fit any other card but the two listed above.

In my opinion it is impossible to mod this water block to fit the Sapphire design. Your best bet would be to purchase EK-Thermosphere GPU-only water blocks.

Also, look at the difference in the circuit board design:

1. Sapphire:

2. MSI:

So, always search the Cooling Configurator for your SKU, like this:
